CHAPTER THREE | EZRA POV
A soulmate is chosen without your say. No one questions why or how and no one tells you when either. All breeds of life have a soulmate, but Lycan's are lucky enough to always find their way to them.

One way or another.

I've always heard stories of how it felt when others met their mate. The pull is magnetic- the need to touch or hold them is unbearable... the comfort in their presence.

My body feels as if it were vibrating with anticipation. I glance at my leg that jitters beneath the table, an action I didn't notice I was doing until now.

If that is how they describe meeting their mate- this feels damn close to their experience.

"Our guards caught a glimpse of them on our northern boarder." Nadine announces, gravely. I raise my gaze to her at this. The somber mood between the four of us is painfully evident now. Nadine is a ferocious Alpha, some would say even ruthless at times. However, as an alpha, that is who you have to be willing to be. As long as if it's for the benefit of the pack.

Beside her sat Nathaniel, her mate and Beta. Quiet, but intuitive. They came to represent the needs of the Silver Dawn pack. As we both share the same dilemma.

She leans back, folds her bronze arms over her chest and looks over to Nathaniel. No doubt crossing words mentally.

"So they're getting more bold I see." From beside me, Giada raises her glass of champagne and downs it.

I raise an eyebrow at this to which she shrugs.

Her words ring into my head. We're definitely going to need it.

I attempt to move my attention away from my sister and back onto the problem at hand. With each passing moment, focus feels increasingly difficult. "You can rely on our signal if they are spotted anywhere near our borders. Can we likewise rely on yours?"

Nadine nods at this, with concern laced in her expression.

"Where is your Alpha, Ezra."

Nathaniel breaks the silence, finally putting a few words into the conversation. Irritation creeps onto me. He is a Beta as well, yet here he is belittling my place.

"Ryder has to overlook our guards, we can't risk another attack." I say through gritted teeth.

Suddenly, a smell hits me, almost like the smell of a vibrant garden of flowers. Inside, my wolf anxiously signals to shift.

Not now. I order. My irritation almost hitting the roof at this point.

She's here. He growls.

Something tugs at me to turn. A burning sensation screaming at me to look right.

So I do.

I turn and am immediately met with a dark brown gaze, a startled look evident on her face.

Mate.

Over her scent lingers another smell.

An oversized jacket draped over her petite figure.

Inside I feel the anger roll in waves, a low snarl emanating from my wolf.

"Ezra,"

I pull my gaze away from my mate, bringing my focus back onto the table. All three looked to me expectingly.

Giada lays a hand on my forearm and immediately I notice my claws that had protruded.

"What has gotten into you?" She asks, with concern laced in her tone.

I take a moment to calm down. I can't expose us here.

"My mate," I reply, in disbelief.

Giada looks past me, and lays eyes on her. "The human?"

"More specifically- the human sitting with the half breed?" Nathaniel, raises a brow with a slight smirk. As if this all were amusing to him.

Anger flares through my veins, "Is this amusing to you?" I growl, lowly.

Before he could respond Giada intercedes. "Ezra, you must be mistaken- she's human. It's impossible for human's to be mates with a Lycan." She attempts to reason, but out of my peripheral vision I see my mate stand.

After quiet observation, Nadine speaks up, " I hope you're wrong."

Then eyes her, "That human may become his dinner, he could be a feral half-breed."

I clench my fist in attempts to suppress my claws, "Over my dead fucking body." I snarled.

I'm tired of the fucking games, I can't stay here any longer when she's in danger. I stood from my seat. If Nadine and Nathaniel have further information regarding our borders, report it to Ryder and I later. I mind linked to Giada.

I didn't wait for any of their objections. I didn't wait twenty-one years to lose her like this.

I leave the table and tread in the direction that she left to but pause as my blood began to boil beneath my skin.

Where is the fucking half-breed.
