Alexis
"Is it me or is she a little grumpier than usual?" Jake mutters taking a seat next to me. It is not surprising about a guy from the soccer team to show up late to a test. Even though been warned to avoid his Saturday morning practice he showed up 10 minutes late.
"She won't spare you this time." I murmur.
"Look outside, Alex, its pouring! How do you expect me to finish the drill at 7.50 am and end up here at 8'O clock? It's unthinkable!"
"Mr. Walker. We'll be meeting Principal Salazar tomorrow." Mrs. Morris' stern tone send shivers down my spine. She is standing over us.
Mrs. Morris is our philosophy professor in her mid-forties. She had joined the institute six years ago; I used to see her almost every day but it wasn't until last year she became a faculty member at the rank of Full Professors. With her firm posture, tweed blazer and cat-like glasses she is downright brutal when it came to punishments. She did not do detentions. If you test her patience, she will drag your ass right to the Principles office. She makes her own rules, kind of like Umbridge from Harry potter. Somehow, she has a persistent eye on me. At first, I felt that she hated me, but later on this year, she constantly inquired about my grades or if I had doubt in any other subjects. She is the only professor who calls home in case I ever remained absent.
"Mrs. Morris, the soccer practice got delayed...and it's... –."
"Enough! You're disrupting the silence." She snaps. "No extra minutes will be granted." And with that she walks off.
...
"What's with the gauze?" I ask eyeing the soaked, thick cluster of linen bandages around Jake's wrist.
"This" he winces raising his arm, "is a gift from my mortal enemy."
Damion! That jerk! Damion is the soccer team's captain.
He is jacked, olive colored skin and a freakishly tall guy and a big bully! And Good little Jake here is his chew toy. Giving him 11 fractures and counting. Not only Jake but also most of the nerds' fear to be around him. The only thing concerning him is his dedication for the soccer team. Along with being extremely annoying, he is also Nancy's boyfriend.
Nancy, the legally blonde who still thinks I tried to bleach her hair at a house party. It was a misunderstanding to say for sure. The senior bullies had set the trap, and we walked right into it. The bleach-filled bucket was poured from the first-floor balcony right on top of Nancy. I was just as terrified as the rest of the crowd. Not because out of all the people she suspected me, but apparently, I was a "brunette"; such a ridiculous thought. Besides, I had a strange intuition at the time. Though, I am completely diagnosed of any mental illness, my entire life, I felt out of place, and still do, I can't shake this feeling, like I don't belong here, that I am meant for something more. It's not just the thoughts, my nights are filled with vivid nightmares. It all started 6 years ago, when my dad went missing, I would wake up in the middle of the night; sweaty and yelling. The dreams are never specific; most of them has a silhouette of a man in front of what looked like a white fire. I soon started consuming sleeping pills to let me ease to sleep.
I might have been a misfit but I still have friends. And Enemies like Nancy. Nevertheless, that was her 3 years ago. Since then, she has evolved with toxic hate towards me, not to mention my friends too.
Fifty percent of Jake's injuries are intentional. Meaning, she takes out her revenge in countless ways. And today's reason is definitely over the fact that my economic project was chosen over hers. Not that Adam Smith's theories mattered to her. Nevertheless, our projects were short-listed to be selected by Caleb, the head of the Commerce committee. And the boy I've a huge crush on. In addition, Nancy has known it for a while, all thanks to me; I can't hide my emotions too well and go crimson when he's around. Caleb isn't your typical popular guy who everybody has a crush on; instead, he's the only guy girls tend to overlook because of his friendliness. In fact, he's the only boy other than Jake to approach me for doubts or group studies. He ignored my weirdness. He is just too perfect; he is gentle, caring, and considerate and most important of all he has blue eyes, something I look forward in a boyfriend. Although we haven't crossed that bridge yet.
