Alexis
This is the end of me.
I wait for the impact but there is none. I hear the thud on the floor and the shattering of the glass, but don't feel it. I hear the sparks fly across the floor. The smell of dust and burnt wire fills my nostrils. My throat turns dry. Everything else is blurt out. What happened? Did I die?
I slowly open my eyes. There is unsteady darkness. Wait! There's a movement. I try to move my body but fail. Did the ceiling really fall upon me? if yes, then why am I not dead?
A flashy image comes to my mind; I was pushed out of the way by someone.
I bring my hands to my chest only to feel a firm brick-like torso pressed against me. My face buried in his chest. I feel a pair of strong arms around my waist. As my distorted vision comes to focus, I see his face. He is clean-shaved, his jet-black hair is ruffled; tiny pieces of cement and glass shine as glitter. His jaw is breathtakingly strong and chiseled. His lips symmetrical and well-defined. He has thick dark eyebrows. One of them has a slight scar across itself that subtly mends the brow. And finally, his eyes; they are a deep shade of hazel. I can visibly see the sparks reflect in them; like fire flickering in the brown woods of a bonfire on a chilly evening. Who is this guy?
His face is just inches away from mine. I can feel his steady hot breath against my cheeks. His stare flickers before he breaks the eye contact and backs away enough to let me rest on my elbows. I look over and find the LED ceiling squashed on the Floor. The floor where I was standing just moments ago has been disintegrated under the bulky weight of the ceiling. I would have turned into a pulp if it wasn't for him.
My eyes travel back at my savior.
"Are you alright?" His voice is hoarse and holds a tint of concern.
"Thanks" I mutter wobbly.
"Good, let's go!" He gets to his feet and drags me along with him.
Wait, what?
"Go where?" I fail to conceal the panic in my voice. What is he talking about?
There is a similar ceiling thud somewhere ahead of us. Something's not right.
The tall dark-haired guy looks at me with a solemn glare that makes my blood turn cold. The little concerning tint I had spotted in his eyes, is now history. His body stiffens as he takes a step closer towards me. He is a bit taller considering I'm five feet-eight inches, he must be six feet something. But, I still have to look up at him. The proximity of the situation is making my knees hurt and I feel a jolt of current in the pit of my stomach.
I will not deny, he is extremely sexy. NOW'S NOT THE TIME ALEXIS!
"Do you want to die on your eighteenth birthday?" he asks, sounding unsympathetic.
How did he know?
"I..." It is like a dilemma; on one hand I am scared to death of the bombarding, my body feels like it has been powered down, I have no strength to dodge another falling ceiling. I also don't have any intention of getting abducted by a trained assassin. On the other hand, I have this unsettling feeling of trusting him. Like an inner voice telling me to obey him or something ominous might happen. I have to go with him.
But I don't even know him. How can I trust him to be my rescuer and not some hitman?
"Okay." I feel my lips betray me.
...
It's not advisable to sprint around in a pair of heels. Believe me, when I say heels; be it regular or glided it's foolish to run in them. I'm sure I look like an ostrich with arthritis. But, I cannot physically explain my theory to the tall dark-haired guy who is speeding through the car park of the club as we speak. He is definitely faster than me but is much better at dodging obstacles, unlike me who keeps running into every second person and thing. The car park is dark and deserted, the only illuminating light came from the moon.
