Annabeth Chase leaned on the window sill, her eyes peering out of the transparent glass, marveling at the high skyscrapers of Manhattan, the most densely populated of New York City's five boroughs.

She had seen many cities, many monuments, and had traveled all across the world but somehow, this city struck close to home. Her mother, Athena, had been born here, in this beautiful city, and now, as she sat peacefully inside her car, Annabeth couldn't help but wonder at how different things were going to be.

Annabeth forced her eyes away from the scenery and pulled out her phone. She grimaced as she noticed that she was trending on Twitter.

Imagine waking up at 3am and finding out that your favorite singer has suddenly decided to take a break for a year and attend high school...

It scares me how Annie might be sitting right next to me and I wouldn't even recognize her.

Annie, a name almost everyone in the musical industry recognized, was one of the youngest successful singers. After posting a cover song on YouTube, where it received a lot of praise, she continued posting more recordings behind the name 'Annie' which grew famous with each day that passed. Somewhere along the way, she'd started writing original songs too.

Now, after two years, she wanted a break from the eyes of people and with the help of her best friend, Thalia Grace, Annie had managed it! Of course, Dionysis, her boss, wanted her to continue writing songs 'NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS'.

But her real name was Annabeth Chase.

And now, she was heading home to her mother's mansion and tomorrow, she would take a step into her new life at Goode High School.

After fifteen minutes, Annabeth had arrived. Mustering all her courage, she took a deep breath and stepped out of the car. The greenery of the trees seemed to blind her and the air danced around her. Far away, she could see her mother's manor.

Being an architect, Athena had designed it in a way that was beautiful and huge from the outside while being comfortable, healthy, enormous, and lively from the inside at the same time.

"Bob," she turned to the driver, who was her personal driver and bodyguard, and mostly, a great friend. "Do you mind taking my luggage inside? I think I am going to stay outside for a while before being attacked with hugs."

"Of course, Annabeth. I will be inside." Oh, Annabeth loved Bob!

She walked to the nearest tree and after closing her eyes, placed her hands on the bark. This profound freedom seemed so new. No press... No public...

Annabeth sighed and walked into her new home.

She turned out to be a great seer because as soon as she entered the manor, Thalia, Piper, and Hazel - OH GODS, HAZEL! - crushed her into deadly bearhugs.

"I missed you!" Piper exclaimed as she pulled back. Annabeth grinned, "Me too!"

"You should really visit more," Hazel smiled. "It has been ages." Yes. In fact, a year had passed since Annabeth had last seen Hazel, the sweet, adorable friend in their tiny inner circle. They had been in Boston, with Magnus, Annabeth's cousin.

"Oh, you know, there is a reason I came back," Annabeth said, shrugging innocently. "Frank still around?"

Hazel nodded with a laugh and Annabeth turned to Thalia, "You've been awfully quiet this entire time."

"Don't mind me," Thalia grimaced. "I am just preparing myself for the pranks Leo will pull on Jason when he comes over."

Annabeth's eyes widened, "Leo? The Latino elf guy who excels at annoying?"

"Yep. Seems familiar."

"Leo's coming over?" She couldn't believe it! Her eyes went wider by the second.

"Last I saw, yes," Thalia nodded and Annabeth pulled her into another hug. "Thank you for making all this possible," Annabeth whispered truthfully. Thalia raised an eyebrow instead, "You owe me now." Annabeth snorted then sighed, "Fine..."

They laughed.

Piper coughed and Annabeth turned to find a dark-haired girl in her arms, "Annabeth, meet Shel, my girlfriend."

Annabeth gaped at her for a while before bursting into laughter. "Girlfriend?" She asked. Piper looked offended.

"Yep!" She said, popping the 'p'. "Meet Shel. Shel, meet Annabeth."

Shel raised her hand with a grin, "I've heard about you."

"Can't say the same," Annabeth looked at her right into Shel's eyes, "but I want to know everything." They grinned.

Annabeth pulled her hand back, her jaw falling, as she realized something. She turned to Piper. "What about Jason." Thalia started giggling uncontrollably, much to Annabeth's surprise.

Piper flinched, "I... he..." She cleared her throat. "It wasn't clean."

Annabeth controlled her laughter. This was a bad time to start laughing. Instead, she placed her hand on Piper's shoulder. "It will be alright, sis. You guys have to tell me eve-"

Again, someone cleared their throat behind Annabeth and she turned, finding herself facing her mother.

"Mom," Annabeth smiled politely as she pulled her mother into a small formal hug. Things hadn't been good between them when they had parted last but Annabeth didn't care. She was her own woman. She had made her mother proud and no matter what she said now, Annabeth would not do what she had asked her to.

Sensing their tension, Thalia stepped in. "So! Annabeth, let me show you to your new room. It's awesome!"

Annabeth smiled at her thankfully and followed her in, hoping not to see her mother again; at least not for the next whole year.
