"We need to talk about your brother."
Jean's gaze was on Lumine, as was the Cavalry Captain's. The young woman wasn't the least bit surprised by this sentence. She had been waiting since she had revealed her past to them for the moment when this discussion would come. She knew that Jean wouldn't make a hasty decision without talking to her first, so she had waited for her to talk about it on her own.
"I'm sorry to have to use what you had the courage to tell us when you woke up, but..."
"But my brother is too much of a threat to be ignored? I know that..." cut in Lumine as she stood in front of the desk.
As Jean nodded in confirmation, Kaeya spoke up.
"If he really is the Prince of the Abyss who commands the Abyss Order, he must be put out of business. No matter what his goals are, good or bad, his actions bring nothing but chaos and desolation to us. He will not be able to bring back Khaenri'ah even by taking revenge on the gods, all he will succeed in doing is annihilating the entire continent."
These words straight out of Kaeya's mouth carried considerably more weight than the few thoughts she had given to the subject since the previous day. Lumine was forced to face reality: she would have to choose sides, whether she wanted to or not.
To fight alongside her friends whom she met after waking up here and whom she considers her own family, or to fight alongside her twin brother even though he would kill thousands of people to carry out his plan?
In either case, there would most likely be deaths.
Jean's voice echoed in the room after the silence that had just fallen.
"The story of the toppled Statue of Seven that you saw reminded me of a legend: that of the Lost Statue of the Seven from Mondstadt. According to records, a Statue of the Seven disappeared overnight without anyone ever finding it. It could be that it was absorbed by the Abyss, and that therefore it is this statue that you saw. In which case, it confirms the fact that your brother is in the Abyss."
Lumine stared at her, pondering this legend that indeed explained the presence of a statue in the Abyss. However, there was still the problem of how it had ended up there, but that question wasn't on today's agenda.
"Lumine..." continued Jean. "I don't want to force you to take part in the operations. I can understand if you don't want to take a stand since he is your only family. Nevertheless, we are not going to remain idle. The Abyss Order is still our number one enemy. We will do everything we can to find a way to get into the Abyss, and once we do, we will form an alliance before we go in to end this threat once and for all. I'm sorry, but I'm not allowed to be sentimental. I have thousands of lives in my hands."
Jean's serious expression showed an unwavering determination, something that had allowed Mondstadt to thrive for so many years.
Descending into the Abyss...
"I know you must act... If my brother is truly the instigator of the Abyss Order's machiavellian plan, I cannot condone it. I must settle this, and for that, I must see him to discuss or fight against him. Jean, could you let me do it? I think I'm the only one who can fight him on equal terms either way..."
"I don't mind, but how do you plan to get into the Abyss? To this day, we don't know any way to get there..." Jean observed.
"I may have an idea, but I don't know if it will work..."
