"Maggie, this is Sophia, our new student from Florida," Ms. Brown said.
"Hi, Sophia," Maggie said with a smile. I thought that was weird because she had knocked me over and acted so smug about it before.
"Alright, Maggie. I trust that you'll help Sophia to catch up with what we've been working on in class. You'll have your first study session on Thursday," Ms. Brown said.
"Okay," Maggie said sweetly. Class ended and we finally got to go home after this terrible day. Dad picked me up and we drove home. I got out of the car and walked inside only to see Dad's ferret, Ronnie glaring at me. I glared right back and went up to my room to start my homework. After an hour of Algebra and English, I was finally done with my homework.
"Sophia, what do you want for dinner?" My dad yelled upstairs.
"Can we have Chinese takeout?"
"Sure, I'll call right now," he said. "Do you want your usual?" He called up.
"Yeah," I said. I started thinking about how Dad and I hadn't changed much. Mom definitely had, considering that she'd taken on a new job and going to Australia and making me go to South Carolina and all. She'd never make me do that before the divorce. The Chinese takeout delivery person came, snapping me out of my thoughts. Dad paid the delivery man, then we sat down to eat. After eating a few bites of rice, Dad asked,
"How was your first day at Hoover High School?"
"Eh, it was okay I guess."
"You know, Sophia, that was where I met your mother. Hoover High School." He said.
"Really? I never knew that, Dad." I said. We ate in silence for a few minutes, and then I got up and threw away the remains of my dinner, and went up to my room. When I neared my door, I heard a strange slurping sound. I went into my room cautiously, not knowing what to expect. To my surprise, Ronnie was cleaning himself on my pillow!
