Chapter 39

"I think I see him!" Hermes yelled in front of us.

"Where?!" Renae screamed. Her emotions were emitting to everyone around her but we all had the same focus, to get Owen back unharmed.

--Braxtons POV--

"I'm sorry.. I know this isn't how you excepted this.." I bit my lip waiting for Jay response on my knee.

"Definitely not how I was expecting this to go... I actually wanted to ask you first." He smiled pulling out a ring of his own.

"..so I'm assuming that's a yes?" I couldn't help but laugh as he grabbed my hand and placed his ring on my finger.

"It's a yes." He smiled holding his hand out for me to put the ring on his finger. " I was actually going to ask you tomorrow on our date. Not in front of the school." He chuckled looking at most of the kids running around.

"Well... I came determined, I've been carrying around this ring for the last two weeks. I figured out when I was about to die that I wanted you as my husband. I didn't want to go another day without you." I smiled as I stood up.

"That was my motivation too. I was so scared that I lost you.. I don't want to feel that again." He wrapped his arms around me.

"This is perfect timing you two." Mr K walked up to us.

"I'm sorry?" I said pulling back from Jay.

"Well, I proposed to Mila last night." He said with his cheeks burning red.

"The mermaid Mila?" Jay asked getting excited.

"Yes. We haven't been together long but in order for us to have a relationship, her pod refuses to let her have a relationship with anything that has legs unless they're married. So we're in a rush."

"We could try to help. Do you want a wedding or do you just want to elope?" I smiled thinking of the romance.

"Elope, if we wait around, her pod will be able to take her away without us getting married and I won't have a chance at being together."

"Wait, you're getting married to a stranger so you can have a relationship with her?" Tyler walked over holding Monicas hand.

"Basically, but she's worth it. I just wish she could come out and meet everyone. She stuck inside my apartment in that damn tub."

"I can work on a spell for you and maybe try to give her legs. Rosia should know it. If she isn't...mourning."

"Is she still mourning? Didn't she take over the role of headmaster?" Jay scratched the back of his neck.

"She only took the position because she wanted a distraction." Monica rolled her eyes trying to cover her building tears.

"She took the job because she wanted to feel closer to Jarrod on top of trying to distract her. She's just delaying her mourning period." Tyler shook his head and squeezed his hand.

"It's going to be hard for everyone. He basically sacrificed himself for nothing." Jay huffed before walking away.

"Thanks for spoiling my engagement. I'll talk to you guys later." I rolled my eyes and followed Jay.

"HEY!" I yelled as I followed him into the woods.

"You weren't supposed to follow me." He wiped the fresh tears on his face.

"You're upset, of course I'm going to follow you and make sure you're okay." I smiled as I wrapped my arms around his waist from behind and rested my chin on his shoulder.
