After dropping off my friend Emily at her house I quickly made my way onto the road again, on my way home. We had just been at the gym, and I was sweating like crazy after our intense workout. I had to hurry home, as I was already running late. My parents had told me this morning that they had invited someone that my dad worked with. A man whose company was a partner of his own. My dad was the CEO of a big company, which my mom worked at too. They both earned a lot, but what they specifically did hadn't gotten stuck in my head.

I swore under my breath as I checked the time on the dashboard. One hour until our guest was supposed to arrive. I was supposed to help my mom with the food as well, and I could already hear her lecture about me always losing track of time. Ugh.

I soon drove through our gates and parked close to the door. I hurried inside and judging by the smell my mom had given up on waiting for me. I dropped my gym bag on the floor and walked to the kitchen. Just as I suspected, most of the food was neatly lined up on the dinner table.

I carefully walked to her, and when she noticed my presence she gave me a disapproving look, continuing to chop the vegetables.

"I'm sorry, I lost track of time, mom," I said, hoping that I could just leave and hop in the shower. My mom was the nicest person I knew, even when she was pissed. Which was why I wasn't too worried.

"It's fine, but if this happens one more time I will chain you to the house. Now go and get ready." She waved me away and I chuckled, taking my chance to get cleaned up.

I dreaded this dinner. My dad often invited people over for business dinners, and I had to sit through the whole thing, just listening to old men speaking about boring stuff that I never understood.

I walked up the stairs and into the bathroom. My bedroom was right opposite so I didn't bother bringing any clean clothes with me, I could just walk right across the hall. I took off my clothes and stepped into the shower, exhaling as the warm water hit my body. I let my hair stay dry, not having the time to blow-dry it when I was done.

After a quick shower, I wrapped a towel around my body and let my hair down from its bun. When I stepped out of the bathroom I heard my dad's voice downstairs, plus another dark voice that I didn't recognize. Shit, they were early. The last thing I wanted was to be the last one to take a seat as well. I had done that before. I don't know what was worse, my parents' irritation or the embarrassment as I sat down with all eyes on me, in complete silence.

To avoid that, I changed into a simple dress and checked in the mirror one last time to see if my appearance was okay. I still had some light makeup on, so luckily I didn't have to remake it. I adjusted the thin shoulder strap before reaching for the door handle.

I was looking down at the floor as I opened the door but snapped my gaze up when I saw two big shoes stand right on the other side of the threshold. My eyes were met with a suited chest, and I had to look even further up to meet the man's eyes. I had never seen him in my life and became confused as to why he was standing outside my door. The fact that he could be the guest we had over went right through my head. Someone this young couldn't work with my dad, they were all old ugly men. The exact opposite of the man looking down at me.

To say that he was handsome was an understatement. His face was perfectly sculpted. High cheekbones, sharp jaw, straight nose, trimmed facial hair, neatly styled back, dark hair. Some parts were resting on his forehead, making him look younger than he probably was. I would guess 30, based on his rough yet clean features. I was 19, so he would be eleven years older if that was the case.
