Ava
I was currently at my own house, pouring some cat food in Charlie's bowl. My parents were still on that business trip for another week and I had to give Charlie food every day, which was why I had to leave James for a couple of hours. I didn't mind spending time with him, of course, but days like these, where he worked a lot, I could just as well be at home and spend some time with myself, and Charlie of course.
He practically attacked the bowl of food when I placed it back on the counter, making me laugh. I had been a little late today, and it was empty when I arrived. Poor cat. I checked the time on my phone, 1 Pm. James should be in a business meeting right now, not about mafia stuff though, an actual business meeting. He had made two of his guards stay here with me, but they were standing outside. I knew pretty much every of his guard's names by now, even though they didn't talk much. But when they did they were always nice, so it didn't really bother me that they were close at all times.
I had also gotten to know some of James' men, other than Ben and Matt. They all had seemed to have a very cold and tough exterior when I first met them, but when we got to talk they were actually nice and rather soft. James was happy about me going along with his men and such, but he didn't like when they got too close, but he was like that with any man I talked to. He didn't seem jealous though, just protective. James was a very proud and powerful man, he had no reason to be jealous.
The sound of the phone ringing made me jump. When I lifted it up, Emily's name was on the screen. I pressed the green button and lifted it to my ear.
"Hey, whatsup?" I asked, sitting down by the dinner table.
"Jesus, you're hard to get a hold of." She sighed.
"What do you mean, I just answered." I chuckled.
"I have been calling you for ten minutes, but anyway, so there's a party at Isaac's tonight, are you coming?"
It had been a long time since I had socialized with any other than James or Emily, so to be honest, I felt excited by the thought of going. However, I doubt that James would want me to go to a party. He would say something like 'parties aren't safe' or 'Yeah, that's a great idea if you want to get groped by teenage boys'. He was right though. If I wanted to go I had to lie about where I was going. And I didn't want to lie to him, but I mean it was just a party, they were usually not that dangerous.
"I don't know, Em."
"Oh come ooon, you haven't been to a party for like a year." She whined.
It had been two months.
"I know but I don't think I can go," I explained.
"Are your boyfriend not letting you or what?"
Pretty much.
"No, of course not."
"Then come. It will be worth it, I promise."
I guess I could just tell James that I would hang out with Emily, he wouldn't say no to that. So I made my decision.
"Pick me up at eight."
_
"So it will just be you and Emma?" James questioned as we walked down to the front door.
"Her name is Emily, and yes, just us."
Emily was waiting outside in her car. I had been at my house all day, and James had driven here two hours ago. None of my friends knew that he was a maffia boss, and I planned on keeping it that way. I adjusted the skirt I was wearing as we walked out. Emily was waiting outside her car, and her jaw literally dropped when she caught sight of James. I had forgotten that they had never met. This would get interesting. I knew that she would comment something inappropriate, as usual, and when we stepped closer to her I mouthed a 'stop'. She only smiled.
