chapter 10- voodoo doll 5 seconds of summerCalum's pov:
"You know I had a dream about her,"
The sun was sinking behind us, the sky casting a pink and orange glow. Luke was in my passenger seat and without even looking at him I could tell he thought I was crazy.
"Who? Adwin?" The pitch in his voice quirked up at the end of his words in this very Luke-ish way it always did.
"Yeah, it was before that one game in september. When I got hit in the face..." I mumbled the last bit but Luke still cackled beside me.
"I'm serious. I swear I had a dream about her and I remembered seeing her around my sister's job. I even asked Mali about her one time,"
We were on our way to Inez's house for a movie night with the whole group. It was kind of weird to me how easily they let Luke and I intrude on their shit but it didn't feel unnatural. Inez was like this cooler version of Lisa Simpson and Mikey was loud. Very funny and funky but loud. Ashton was a year older than us but he was goofy too. One time he explained to me the meanings of like six different crystals and handed me a green one at the end of it. I still keep it in my coat pocket.
"And what did Mali say? Stop being a creep around her workers? You didn't know who she was! She could've been in college or something, that'd definitely be illegal," Luke tucked a golden curl behind his ear and it took everything in me not to shove his head.
"Yeah well Adwin's not in college and I mean if she was I don't think I could wait till I was eighteen,"
Where do I even begin with Adwin? She was a little lost in her own world sometimes but when she was present she gave you her all. I had made an agreement with my sister so I could continue seeing Adwin at work. 1. I had to actually get homework done 2. I had to check in with her so she could read things over 3. I couldn't steal her best intern from her.
I was trying my hardest to not break three. The other two were easy enough. It's always taken me longer to do homework and probably always will, so time was never an issue. Plus every minute spent not working was spent listening to Adwin talk about fashion.
Sometimes in the group she'd get real quiet but when it was just the two of us in my sister's office she would explode with all these facts. I knew so much about different fabrics and sewing patterns and modeling that I hadn't known before simply from sitting beside her. The way her eyes lit up and her voice would speed. She'd get so excited she'd fumble over her words and scrunch her nose. I can picture it now, us in 30 years. Her, still rambling on about whatever she loved and me watching her with amazement.
"Mali just said she was an intern, didn't even say her name or anything. But then literally the next day there she was in the stands and it just hit me-"
"Literally!" he exclaimed, slapping his hand on his knee.
"Shut the hell up Lucas,"
His laughter slowly subsided but when it did he smacked my arm, "You are so hung up on her. Didn't you and Sophia break up like barely two months ago?"
I groaned at the sound of her name, "Please, Sophia was terrible. Like I knew she wasn't always the nicest to others but she was never so outwardly disrespectful,"
Luke slumped back into his seat, "I never liked her,"
"Adwin has like this kind of boyfriend though, so I honestly don't think it's gonna go anywhere," I exhaled as we cruised down Inez's very long driveway.
"Jamie? You know before you showed up they were like the it couple, but then she like disappeared and he stopped hanging out with everyone," Luke held out his hands and shook them to emphasize the "it" part.
