chapter 3- end up here 5 seconds of summer
So Calum wasn't lying when he said he knows where I work. We pulled up to Mali-Koa's space downtown and I fought to keep the surprise off my face. Calum walked with this pep in his step as we strolled through the front doors. We weaved around the front desk and toward the studio Mali was in.
Mali-Koa was holding a camera while the model in front of her posed. Creatives were roaming behind her picking up props and laying out next pieces. The bustle of it all lowkey excited me.
"KoKo!" Calum dropped his backpack on the floor and threw his arms wide. Coming up behind Mali, he scooped her up in a hug and her shrieks filled the room.
"Let go of me Calum!" She protested in between laughs and now it all makes fucking sense. He finally put her down and that's when she noticed me standing near the entrance.
"Hey Adwin," God, their genes were strong, the two had practically identical smiles. Mali turned to Calum, who I'm inferring is her younger brother, "Do you need help with your homework?"
Calum's cheeks flushed a bright red and he tried to cover it up with a chuckle, "Noooo, actually," He positioned his body toward me and gestured in my direction, "Adwin here is my partner for an english project, dear sister, and we were wondering if we could use your office to work?"
Everyone else in the studio continued on with their tasks while Mali was turned away. Without hesitation she shrugged and gave us permission before returning to her shoot. Calum had this cheeky smirk on his face as he picked his bag off the floor.
While skipping in front of me he called back "Cmon bestie we ain't got all day!"
—Mali-Koa's office was decently sized, she had a pretty large desk with a pretty expensive desktop resting on it. Against the opposite wall there was a green couch and that's where Calum and I laid out our stuff. Sitting a ways away from each other I watched as Calum pulled out his phone.
Clearing his throat he asked, "Hey um do you mind if I record us interviewing each other?" he didn't look me directly in my eyes when he spoke and his leg chattered up and down. He seemed very nervous to say the least.
"You know I just don't wanna miss anything important you say and not get the chance to write it down or-" everything just kind of spilled out of him and without even thinking I touched my hand to his bouncing knee. He looked down at where we made contact then raised his gaze to me.
The flat line my mouth usually sat in raised a bit at the corners, "Its okay, do whatever you need to Calum,"
"H'okay,"
Quickly I drew my hand back and tried to get a hold of myself. What the actual fuck.
—
"How old are you?"
"I'm only 17,"
"Only?" Calum raised a brow at me. He has very expressive facial features lemme tell you.
"Yeah only," I still sat far enough from him on the couch that we wouldn't accidentally touch but close enough that we didn't look like strangers.
"You?"
"I'm only 17 too," He chuckled like he still wasn't over a joke only he got.
"When's your birthday?"
"January 25th. Yours?" Calum stood up and started juggling a soccer ball. Where it came from I couldn't tell you. His phone sat recording our conversation on the couch near me.
"April 16th,"
"Ooh an aries,"
Even if I wanted to I couldn't help but roll my eyes and furrow my brows, "You believe in all that horoscope stuff?"
