DECEMBER 24TH, 2007, LOUIS' BIRTHDAY WAS NEVER THE SAME so long as Harry had something to do with it.

It was six in the morning. Six for the love of God. Now don't get him wrong, Louis absolutely loved Harry's little birthday traditions. They were consistent and if there was one thing Louis craved, it was consistency.

But Jesus Christ, Louis did not want to be woken up at six in the morning. This was new, this was something Harry had never done before and Louis was nervous.

"Happy seventeenth, blue!" there Harry was, standing in Louis' doorway with waffles on a plate, one tiny candle in the middle. Louis couldn't help the smile that creeped up on his tired face. No matter how badly he wanted to roll over, hide under the blankets and stay there until life was going the way he wanted it to; he couldn't help but be happy for what he had in this moment.

It's vary rare that you find a person that will love you the way Harry loved Louis. Louis just hopes he never loses that.

"Hazzy," he finally speaks after drinking the now lukewarm water that was sitting on his nightstand, "you're insane, why are you up so early? What insane thing do you have planned today?"

"Well, it's Christmas eve, and I know you know that everything closes early today, so, other than your gifts that I'll give to you throughout the day, for once, I have nothing planned because I'm saving it for next year."

Louis sighs. It isn't because Harry doesn't have anything planned, or because this year isn't going to be exactly the same as every year that came before it. He wants to know what next years plans are, and why he has to wait, and what makes them so special.

"So why are we up so early? Suns not even up yet." Louis asks softly before blowing out the candle on his waffles. As he munches on the waffles, he notices Harry walking to his closet and pulling out blankets.

"Living on Florida's east coast has its perks,"  he sends Louis a devious smile, and the younger boy puts two and two together, "come on, we're gonna go watch the sun rise."

And Louis thinks this is one of the things he loves the most about Harry. About three weeks ago, the two were laying in Harry's living room watching some romcom that Louis doesn't care enough to remember the name of, and in it, the couple went to see the sunrise. Louis had mentioned that he'd like to do that someday. He only said it that once, and he didn't really think Harry was paying attention to him, that man gets so invested in every single romcom he watches, so much that Louis could leave without him noticing. Or so he thought.

It's the fact that he was listening. The fact that even though they were doing something Harry loved, something he gets so invested in, but every little thing Louis says or does, matters. It matters to him so much that there's a part of him that never stops paying attention to Louis.

That's definitely one of the things Louis knows he loves most about Harry.

So Louis gives in, he practically inhales the waffles- after harry insisted he blew out the candle and made a wish. Before he knows it, they're in Harry's car (he already had snacks, waters, two pillows and a blanket packed), and on their way to the beach.

Harry's playing to custom CD he had burned with some of Louis' favorite songs on it, one hand on the wheel, and the other loosely holding on to Louis' hand.

It's quiet out, no one on the road and everything still closed, Louis takes this time to just appreciate all that he has.

Before he knows it, they're finding a parking spot and Harry's grabbing everything out of the car. The sky is a light purple, sun rise isn't til' about seven-thirty.

He finds the perfect spot to lay down at, and Harry sets up shop as Louis digs through the coolers to find them both a water.

Eventually, he plops himself down next to Harry, who puts an arm around him and pulls him close.

"You know I love you right? You're my best friend, Blue." there's a slight blush on Louis' cheeks. Harry was always extra soft on Louis' birthday.

"I love you more, Harry. You're my favorite." Louis couldn't form words at the moment. He leaned up and placed a kiss on Harry's cheek, knowing he couldn't do more than that, wishing that he could.

Louis would never know what he found so comforting about sitting in silence with Harry. But he always felt that in those moments where it was just the two of them snuggled up together, that he knew everything was going to be fine, no matter what happened.

It didn't take more than thirty minutes of them sitting there for the sun to start rising. Louis was absolutely mesmerized by what the sun was doing for Harry's eyes, and he decided that if there was one moment he wants to be engraved in his mind, it's this one.

It's the way Harry missed out on sleep to do something he knew Louis wanted to do. Or how ethereal he really was, and how Louis is pretty sure he's never seen anything better looking than his Harry.

He can't help but wonder how he's going to top this for Harry's birthday in a few months, but he'll worry about that when the time comes.

As the sun finally makes it's way all the way up, and people start coming out for morning runs, dog walks, and swims, the two decide that it's time to pack up and go on about their day.

Louis knows the day is far from over- he's already mentally and emotionally preparing himself for whatever Harry may have in-store.

There's a part of Harry who wished the diner visit after the beach could've been a breakfast date. In a way, they both know it is one but they just can't say anything about it.

Don't get him wrong, Harry wants Louis to enjoy seventeen, it's the last disappointing year really. But there's this part of him that's just counting down the day until Louis turns eighteen, and his boy can finally be his.
