Clank.

Clank.

Thud.

The sound of wood against wood echoed throughout the training courtyard during dawn. A sweat trickled down the side of Chunhwa's face as she moved forward, her right hand that was holding a wooden sword doing the same— striking the wooden figure in front of her. She turns around, before striking again from another side.

Forward.

Turn.

Strike.

Clank.

Strike.

Another clank louder than the last.

"You're going to hurt yourself at that rate."

Her wooden sword hits the wooden figure's shoulder and she completely stops, turning towards the direction of the voice to find its owner.

"Master Jidwi."

Jidwi takes a few steps towards her and at that, she unconsciously took a step back as she looks away. He took note of her action.

"Are you avoiding me?" he couldn't help but ask.

It has been a few days since he had last seen her and was able to properly talk to her. Every time he would try to approach her, either Yeowool or Hansung would snatch her away. Sometimes, when he tries to catch her eye during training, it seemed that he was something that would curse her if she looks straight into his eyes. He even tried to make a few very noticeable mistakes during training but it's either she would completely pretend she does not see his mistake or the Hwarang general himself would approach and correct his posture instead.

"I'm not avoiding you." Chunhwa nonchalantly denies, clearing her throat. "What makes you say that?"

He sighs.

"I know you are currently resting because of your injuries but after seeing you in the palace a few days ago it seemed that you have avoided me completely."

"I'm—"

"Miss Chunhwa, I've been seeing you talking to the others but when I'm about to approach you, you suddenly disappear."

She closes her mouth, the excuse she was about to make completely dying on her throat. She remained on her position, still looking away from him.

"Please don't lie to me. Did I do something for you to avoid me like that?"

At the word 'lie', Chunhwa couldn't help but snicker softly in disbelief.

"How hypocrite of you to say." she whispers, audible enough for Jidwi to hear before shaking her head and turning around to walk away. He immediately moved forward, holding her wrist to stop her.

"Miss Chun—"

"Sam Maekjong."

The man immediately froze, his hold on her loosening— she pulls her hand away.

"S-since when?"
