Chapter 10

“should we knock?” Luke asked

“No lets go in and surprise her” I said

Wait, you didn’t call?” Jai asked “what if sh-she found someone else..what if she doesn’t even want me here? I mean we haven’t talked in 2 months…”

“Jai ! relax! Its going to be fine, she loves you!” I said

“can you just call? Pleeeeeeease Madieeeeeeeee?” Jai whinnied giving me puppy dog eyes.

“fine…I’ll just….” I said, then swung open the door and yelled “Juliaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”

“Maddie! What’d you do that for!” jai whisper yelled at me.

Calm down Jai” Luke said wrapping his arm around my waist and walking into the house.

Julias P.O.V

I was sitting on my bed listening to music and eating a sandwich , when I heard voices from outside. I couldn’t make out what they were saying or who it was but a few seconds later I heard the door swing open and a very familiar voice call my name.i sprinted down the stairs to see her, but when I got there it wasn’t Madison standing there, it was Jai.

“Jai!” I yelled running into his arms and hugging him. We stood like that for a while, tangled in each others arms. He pulled away a bit and brought his hands up to my face, pulling me in for a kiss.

“Ah-hem” Luke said from across the room. We broke apart and I saw that Maddie and Luke were standing there staring at us.

Maddie’s P.O.V

Julia was happier than ever that we had come for a surprise visit. After catching up and getting a look at her new house, she took us to some local shops and showed us around a little bit.

After we had something to eat at a café we all went back to Julias and went to bed.

We were very tired after all the talking during the day.

Jai and Julia’s relationship seemed better than ever which is good considering Jai was so paranoid.

Me and Luke were great. Everybody was happy.

The next morning I woke up on the couch in Julia’s living room to the smell of eggs. I looked around to see Luke still asleep on the other couch and Julia’s mum Susan making breakfast.

I untangled myself from my blankets and ran over to her. Hugging her.

She jumped a little from surprise then hugged me back.

“I’ve missed having you here every day” she smiled at me.

“I miss it too” I said back. Susan was like my second mum.

I turned around to see Luke watching us. He had a smile on his face.

“come eat” Susan gestured to the table.

We sat down, ate, then went to get dressed.

All day we just sat down talking, and eating. Julia told us about her new school here and me and Luke told her everything about the farm. Jai and Julia were attached to each other, not leaving each others arms all day.

After the long goodbyes and tears, we finally made it home.

The second we got back, Luke jumped onto his bed claiming “he missed it so much”. I layed down next to him and he rolled over and grabbed his laptop. After looking at some tweets I saw one that Beau had posted. It read:”if anyone knows anyway to get the mango farm to stop from closing down it would mean a lot to my brother and Maddie. Its heartbreaking to see them so upset L”

I immideatly ran out of Luke’s room and into Beaus.

With my eyes tearing up I jumped into his arms.

“Thank you”

“for what” he asked confused

“for caring so much about us” I turned to see Luke standing in the doorway.

“well even though its pretty dumb that you guys are obsessed with a farm, I think its kinda cute and it sucks to have a brother that’s super upset all the time” beau confessed.

“awwww” I smiled, glancing at Luke. “You guys are the best. I don’t know what I would do without you”

“even if we don’t end up getting the mango farm, we’ve got everything we need. Just you and me” Luke smiled down at me and pulled me into his arms.

I started to realize that Luke was right; maybe it wasn’t such a big deal anyways. As long as we had each other.

But even with that in mind, the more I started to think about it, the more I started to realize how much I would miss it if I lost it. It was the one place I would go and there would be no problems. No family problems, no school problems. Nothing.

2 days later

I was at Luke’s watching a movie when Gina walked in saying “guys, there’s a letter addressed to the both of you”

We looked at eachother confused. Luke got up and took the letter and sat down next to me so we could read it.

The envelope said:

To: Luke and Maddie

Nothing else.

I opened it and there was a small piece of paper. It read:

Sorry for being an inconvenience in your lives. Won’t be around to bother you anymore. Just a little something to show that I wish I hadn’t left when I did, and that I wish the best for all you guys.

Also in the envelope was a check for $2500 .

I looked up at Luke. A smile crept across his face.

“He-he really did care about us”

He looked up at Gina who was just standing there shocked.

“theres not return address , nothing” I said flipping the paper over looking at the back”

“I guess he used that as his final goodbye” Gina spoke up.

Luke embraced me in a tight hug and then pulled away to look at me. Face to face. Not a single word. The happiness in the air was enough to say a lot.
