Chapter 16

Luke’s POV

The whole night I spent working on the farm. Fixing things up. Putting together the picture Maddie had imagined and told me about. This had to be perfect. Just like her and I used to be.

I really just wanted to explain myself to her but she obviously needed some space so I gave it to her, even though it was killing me inside. The only thing keeping me from going crazy was all the time I was spending working on the farm.

I was working on it because I knew deep down that anything-no matter what, me and Maddie can get through. She means way more to me than a simple argument or misunderstanding. I could never let something as simple as that get in the way of us. I know that we will pull through, no matter how hard, our love can fight through anything. I know that after all this is done-fixing the farm… we will be fixed.

My phone started ringing, interrupting me from my thoughts.

Maddie’s name lit up on the screen.

“hello?” I spoke into it.

“uh…hey” she said

There was a pause.

Maddie’s POV

I didn’t know what I wanted to say to him but now nothing was coming out. I wanted to apologize for everything I had done because this time away had opened up my eyes.

“Listen Luke..” I spoke shaky.

He cut me off.

“Maddie I understand things are really tough and confusing but you need to know that in times like those, you cant just run away. Im as hurt as you are. We need to get through things like this together”

His words were true.

“Yes Luke, I was wrong for what I did. I-I’m sorry”. I stammered out.

Luke’s POV

She sounded desperate yet honest. I knew that she was sorry. But maybe not for the right things. I had just seen her with some guy so I wasn’t ready for things to be back to normal.

“…Luke?” she asked after another long pause. Nerves in her voice.

“Maddie I don’t know how much of a good idea it is for us to be back together right now…I think I need a break. A break from it all.” My heart ripped in half. Saying these things to her killed me.

“oh” she replied quietly.

“Im sorry too Maddie” I replied and then hung up.

Harsh I know. But how could she just call me and think that a simple apology for running away would bring us back together when I had seen her out with another guy?

Her keeping these secrets was not helping anything. So while she sorted herself out and I sorted myself out the farm would get built and things were hopefully slowly going to get better.

I got back to work but with a little bit of guilt in her knowing I had hurt her feelings…even if she had hurt mine.

Maddie’s POV

“I’m sorry too Maddie” his voice echoed in my ear and then the line went dead.

My phone dropped out of my hand. I could not believe what just happened. My own boyfriend not accepting my apology in a time like this.

What was up with him? All I needed was some space. Why is he sorry?

How long until this “break” he keeps talking about is over? I needed answers and I needed them now. Where was I supposed to stay the night?

I sat there asking myself all these questions as tears streamed down my face.

 I guess it was back to Daniels….
