Chapter 14

Maddies POV

It has been 3 days since I’ve talked to Luke. Jai had texted me saying he was safely home but I haven’t had the decency to contact him other than that. Today I was just going to go to the shopping centre to get myself together. I went to my house yesterday but Mum wasn’t home… she was probably out with Jason. I grabbed a bag of clothes and anything else I needed. I don’t think I would be coming back anytime soon. Thanks to Daniel I have somewhere else to stay. Daniel has been such a nice friend, he hasn’t asked once what was going on, I guess he knows that right now I just need to stay to myself.

I was on the train on the way to the shopping centre, just for a chance to get out of the house and go somewhere. I also needed some new clothes.

Luke’s POV

I woke up and walked into the kitchen. I had the biggest headache ever. Mum was making breakfast. She glanced up at me shuffling on the floor. The past 3 days have been pretty tense. We haven’t stopped yelling at each other. It’s not my fault she doesn’t understand what the situation is and/or cant tell her what the situation is. Even though, I was really upset that we were in a fight.

“mum” I said so quietly that she didn’t hear.

“mum” I said a tiny bit louder

“mhm” she said not looking up at me. She was still really mad at me.

“look mum…. I-I’m sorry, I really am.” I said looking down at my feet. “ I didn’t mean to scare you running away like that and I didn’t mean to get so mad at you yesterday.”

She just glanced up at me with glassy eyes.

“ my whole life right now is really messed up and I’m trying my best to fix it.” i replied to her silence.

“oh Luke, I know things are not the way you would have pictured them to be. But you have to understand that people in your life have things harder and they need your help and support. Whatever is going on between you and Maddie, you need to fix. I don’t care if its your fault or not.”

She was right.

I walked up to her and gave her a hug. “I’ve missed you Mum” I said shedding a tear holding her tightly. “I-I’m just so scared” I admitted.

“listen Luke, I know things happen and sometimes things are scary, but you have someone who I know you care about so deeply and she needs you more than ever right now.” She said to me looking me in the eyes.

Damn, how was she so good at this.

“Mum your right. I’m going to go fix it today.” I said to her smiling. “thank you for everything you do” I said grabbing my car keys and jacket.

She smiled at me and I blew her a kiss as I ran out the door.

I got in my car and tried calling Maddie. She didn’t answer. I guess she still hates me. Over the past 3 days I had tried calling her just to talk and see if she was alright but she didn’t answer.

I started driving.

Maddie’s POV

I was walking through the shopping centre by myself. Window shopping and peeking in a couple of stores, not finding anything I liked very much.

I turned my phone on while realising it had been off for 3 days.

I had 9 missed calls. All from Luke. There was another one coming through. I really didn’t feel like talking to him right now. I was just about clearing my head and now he’s just going to fluster me. I ignored it, stuck my phone in my pocket and kept walking.

Luke’s POV

I drove up the driveway of the Mango Farm and walked in the front door. I saw that old man that I talked to before. He was putting some papers into a briefcase im guessing to take home. The whole office looked cleared out.

“well son, what do ya’ got to tell me” he asked me.

“I have come to um buy the farm” I said nervously.

“And what makes you want this old thing so bad?” he asked with a smile on his face.

“um sir, why are you smiling like that?” I asked ignoring his question because I was really confused.

“because I remember you. And I remember your story." He breathed out. "You and your friend can have it.” The biggest smile grew on my face. “I told my wife your story and she thinks it’s the craziest thing, but it reminds her of herself and I when we were younger. Ive talked to the real estate agent that was trying to sell it and she said the city is going to demolish the property if someone dosnt own it withint the next month. Take it as a gift my friend” he said patting me on the back and walking out the door. Just like that he walked away.

I couldn’t believe what I just heard. I ran out after him.

“wait! Wait!” I called. He stopped walking and turned around. “thank you so much sir” I said shaking his hand. “you don’t know how much this means to me”

“oh but I do” he said with a smile. Getting in his car. “ I know your going to take good care of it.” He said to me. And then he drove off.

What just happened.

I felt like this was a movie. I looked around to see if there was any hidden cameras or something. I didn’t know things like this happened in real life. This is probably the only thing that has gone right in my life in quite a while.

This must be a sign that things between me and Maddie right now are just temporary and we will work them out. I know it has to be.

I just stared around the barn room for a while before realizing what I was going to do. I had to rebuild the weathered building so that it could be livable. Good thing I now have this extra money to pay for supplies.

Maddie’s going to be so happy. I thought with a smile on my face looking around at the barn. I knew I had to make it really special before I could tell her the news.

I spent the next half hour creating a list of things I had to do and stuff I had to buy.

After looking around a couple more times and making sure this wasn’t a dream, I got back in my car and drove to the shopping centre to pick up the start of the supplies I was going to need.

Maddie’s POV

After I had realized I had been sulking around the mall for more than 2 hours, not buying anything, I decided I should look in my favorite store, buy a couple things and go home for the day.

Just as I was walking into the store, I saw a familiar face I hadn’t seen in a while.
