Okay so here's the thing your team will never compete up to there full potential if you don't act like a team. That means being encouraging, and positive even in the hardest times. Yes, i know there is that one guy or girl that you cant stand. Well, you have to put up with there bullshit too.
Always remember:
1.) you win and loose as a team
2.) your team is your family if they mess the routine up forgive them everybody has there moments
3.) protect them
4.) try to listen to them even if what they are saying is total shit (unless it's something bad about another team mate)
5.) love themHonestly today my team had a really bad competition. We are forgetting who we are. There were tons of mistakes made. I am proud to say all my stunts and tumbling hit but as I said before you win as a team you loose as a team. On top of the mistakes made a girl threw up on stage and i had an asthma attack. I finished the routine even with the asthma attack. The girl who threw up stopped 20 seconds from the end. We ended up getting 3rd out of 7 which considering all that happened is pretty good. However we have the potential to do so much more.
As a team we get along very well however we need to remember who we are and what we are here to do.
Also things to say to yourself if something goes wrong out on the competition floor:
1.) thats okay i can make up for it
2.) it's not over yet
3.) i will hit the next thing
4.) there's always next competitionIf you fall or your stunt falls always stay positive use it as motivation. Don't think about the lost points. Think about all the other points you can gain later.
Things to say after a bad competition before scores are in:
1.) i did my best
2.) there is nothing else i can do at this moment but pray
3.) there is always another competition
4.) i will fix it next timeAlso, try to make your team mates look on the positive side too. Yes even that girl/guy that you dislike. Sometimes after you make them see the positive side of things you actually start to believe what you are saying.
On my team i am one of the older girls i am 13 years old. The younger girls sometimes look at me like a big sister so when they are stressed two minuets before we go on stage i try to calm them down by saying things like:
1.) something is only as scary as you make it in your mind
2.) fear is an allusion
3.) how many times have you hit this?
4.) just worry about hitting your routine you can only control you not the person next to you or the judges
5.) i have faith that you can do thisToday one of my friends asked me how i can stay so positive threw out all of this stuff and how i can stay strong so long even after I had a flipping asthma attack on stage. I told her its because i love cheer so much. But now that I think about it its probably a mix of things. First of all remember when I told you guys if you tell your teammates enough positive things you start to believe them. Well i started to believe them. Another reason i am very positive to team mates is that they are my family i love them as much as i love cheer and if there is something i can do to make them feel better i will do it. If my team mates need a shoulder to cry on or someone to tell them that it's okay my back spot protection mind set goes on and there is no stopping me until my team mate is happy. Even the mean bitch on the team.
Anyways the lesson of this chapter is love your team.
Love,
