"I'm sorry" (Pet regression Oikawa IwaOi FanFic)

Part 2

Tōru had woken up the next morning out of his headspace. He got dressed took a shower, then started on homework, but instead of pacing himself and taking breaks he just worked through the whole day overwhelming himself.

|| Time Skip To The Next Day ||

Tōru hadn't gone to sleep the previous night until twelve am, which wouldn't have been that bad if it weren't for the fact that he got up at four to continue homework that wasn't due till next week. Essentially he was overworking himself because he felt as though he had wasted time when he slipped. By the time it hit seven am Tōru was already fighting his headspace.

With Kai

Kai was in the front room watching TV on his day off when Himori walks in. She stands in front of Kai rubbing her nape as she skids her foot across the carpet. Kai looks at Himori "Um, do you need something" She continues to look down "Oh uh yeah, so I did some research on the coping mechanism and I wanted to ask if" Kai raises one eyebrow and Himori looks at him "If I could meet Tōru.....in his headspace" Kai raises his eyebrows in surprise "Oh, I mean I don't see why not" Himori shows a small smile then Kai continues "But you have to remember, he won't know who you are" Himori looks to the side "Ok" Kai nods "Well I should probably go check on him, because right about now he should be fighting his headspace, after stressing himself out" Himori furrows her eyebrows "why is he fighting his regression and why is he stressed out" Kai sighs "He did homework all day yesterday and didn't take a single break" Himori scrunches her nose "why" Kai stands up "That's, what he does he overworks himself after he regresses because he feels like when he relaxes it means he is waisting time" Kai walks away heading to Oikawa's room.

The truth is Himori had been looking for a way to bond with her son for a while now she just didn't know-how. She feels bad for how she has treated her son but she is so disappointed in herself that she can't even bring herself to say sorry.

Kai walks into Tōru's room "Tōru why are you still doing homework" Oikawa squeezes his eyes closed making it obvious he is battling a headache. "It's not gonna do itself and it needs to be done" Kai sighs "Your doing it again" Oikawa rolls his eyes "doing what" Kai shakes his head "how many times do I have to tell you, stressing your self out after you regress isn't helping anything" Tōru sighs "I just don't want to feel useless" Kai sighs "Tōru taking time to relax doesn't make you useless and this work isn't due till next week so just let yourself slip, It's obvious you are suppressing your regression" Oikawa sighs "Ok" The shorter lays his head down on his desk and slowly lets his headspace take over.

Once Oikawa has fully slipped Kai picks him up and changes him into a pair of sweat pants and one of Iwaizumi's big hoodies. He picks Tōru up, setting him on his hip. Tōru proceeds to paw at Kai's ears as he walks out to the front room. Kai steps into the front room and Himori looks at him. Then Oikawa bites Kai's ear "Ru Ru no biting" Tōru lets out a whine and lays his head down Kai's shoulder. Himori stares at Oikawa "he looks so......small" Kai laughs lightly and puts Oikawa on the couch only for Oikawa to tumble off, Himori gets scared for a second then Kai smiles "Don't worry that's just how he gets off the couch when he is regressed" Oikawa rolls over and crawls over to Himori's feet and bites her finger "Ow" Kai looks at Himori "uh yeah he likes to bite" Himori picks up Tōru setting him on her lap "You're just a little stinker aren't you" Tōru tilts his head not understanding a word Himori just said. Himori smiles at Oikawa. Tōru turns sideways on Himori's lap then lays his head on Himori's shoulder and chews on her fingers. She sighs "I should have done this earlier" Kai furrows his eyebrows "Done what?" Himori looks down at Tōru "I should have tried to bond with him earlier, but I was too caught up in my own sorrow and guilt that I literally gave my son a reason to have a coping mechanism" Kai sighs lightly and tilts his head "Well at least you realize it now and you can still make it up to him" Himori nods.

Kai starts heading toward the kitchen then comes back with a sippy cup "I got him some water, he usually has to drink out of one of these because he doesn't understand cups" Himori nods then puts the sippy cup to Tōru's mouth. he drinks the water whilst his mother holds the cup.

When Tōru finishes he sits up and crawls to the edge of the couch then reaches his arm out toward Kai and paws at the air, wanting Kai to pick him up. Kai laughs lightly and picks the boy up putting him on his hip. Himori looks at Tōru as he looks around the room with innocent eyes "Does he have any toys" Kai nods and points to Tōru's room. Himori goes in there and grabs Tōru's collar and a squeaky toy. She comes back and clips the pink collar loosely around Tōru's neck, he paws at the tag. Then she gives him the small rubber burger-shaped dog toy and he chews on it. When it makes a squeaking sound he tilts his head in confusion then squeaks it again and tilts his head the other way. Himori and Kai laugh at the regressor's actions.

Tōru lets out a whine "He is probably hungry can you get him some of the teething crackers out of the pantry" Himori nods then leaves soon coming back with some teething crackers and yogurt melts then feeds them to Tōru "how did I never notice all the baby snacks and sippy cups in my kitchen" Kai smiles "Probably because your blind" Himori playfully hits Kai's shoulder "shuddup" Tōru whimpers and nuzzles the spot where Himori hit Kai. Kai smiles at Tōru's actions. Himori rubs Kai's shoulder and talks to Tōru "Look it doesn't hurt your dads fine" Tōru tilts his head then leans forward and nuzzles Himori's hand, she smiles and laughs. She then looks at Kai to see him starring at her wide-eyed "W-what" Kai rubs his nape "Nothing, it's just you have never called me his dad before" A look of remorse crosses Himori's face "I'm sorry about that, but in his eyes and now mine you are his father"

Kai smiles as small tears streams down his face. Tōru whines and snuggles closer to Kai trying to comfort him. Kai laughs "I'm okay Ru, I promise" Himori scratches underneath Tōru's chin "Aw, are you trying to comfort him, your such a good boy" Tōru reaches for Himori, she smiles and takes him and sets him on her hip. "I don't know if you know this little one but you are not exactly light" Oikawa lets out a confused sound as he tilts his head. Himori and Kai laugh. Tōru yawns and lays his head on his mother's shoulder falling asleep.

A little while later

Tōru is still asleep on his mother as she sits on the couch leaning against Kai as they watch TV. Himori looks at Kai "When does he usually come out of his headspace" Kai looks back at her "Hm depends, most of the time it's the next day, sometimes it is closer to right before he goes to sleep for the night, why?" Himori sighs "I want to apologize to him, I know that just one apology won't make him forgive me but I still want to" Kai snorts and Himori looks at him "What" Kai smiles "Himori, he already forgave you a long time ago" Himori's eyes widen and then she looks down "Now I feel even worse"
