Luisa
I hadn't had a good night's sleep since Skybox. I had released all of my tears onto my father and could finally rest. The sun was what woke me up. I looked around the bed to see my father had gone and I was left alone.
I changed out of my gown to put on jeans and a black long sleeve. I found a chest plate and buckled it on the sides before stuffing my feet into boots. I braided a few pieces of my shoulder-blade-length hair and tied it to the back so it was out of my face.
I knew that there would be a meeting in the throne room and went to the hall where I was given food. I sat in an empty chair at the long table where the nightbloods piled in and sat down. They stared at me, gossiping about my reputations but I care and ate.
"Don't mind them," the nightblood Aden told me. "They're actually jealous." I smirked at his words and appreciated that he talked to me. From the color of his clothing, I knew he was from Trikru. He was the only one from his clan and the rest had different attire.
"Where is she?" a familiar voice spoke from afar. My head turned from the boy to see Clarke had come in. "You cannot be in here," Titus told her. She ignored him and approached me. "Lexa signed you up to be in a conclave against Ice Nation. Nia chose Roan as her champion."
I assumed she expected me to be angry with the tone in her voice. I nonchalantly stood and brushed the crumbs off my pants and followed her out. Titus had dismissed the nightbloods and came with us to the throne room. I was the first to enter to see Lexa sitting on her thrown and I went down the aisle and stood in front of her.
"You want me to be your executioner?" I asked. Roan had asked me to be his and assassinate her last night but I didn't and he was probably irritated. My job had been reassigned now that I had kneeled and I was part of her conclave and her successor.
"It's a simple fight the queen challenged me to," she said. "She wants the throne and that's what Roan is fighting for. You will kill him to prove that the throne is still being run by me and Wanheda is on my side." "I would say you could've done it yourself if it's easy but I enjoy a battle; I always come out in the end."
I stood behind a metal garage door and when it opened, the shouts of the arena ignited me. I menacingly grinned, causing my war paint to crinkle against my skin and I stepped out into the sun. I could see the Commander, Flamekeeper, and other nightbloods on a stage with the queen and ambassadors on another. The people of Polis yelled either my title or last name.
I stood in the center of the pit and watched as Roan came out in his all-white Azgedan war paint. He devilishly eyed me and we approached the guards. He held out a case and I grabbed the handle to slide out a sharpened sword. Roan had gotten his sword and we went back to the middle where our swords crossed, waiting to start.
"Get it over with," he muttered. I was sure that he knew I could kill me and I responded, "I'll take my time." In the corner of my eyes, I could see Clarke appear when Titus lifted his arms. "Luisa of Skaikru and Roan of Azgeda," he announced. "May the best champion win."
I slid the blade away from his and stepped back for him to do the same and we circled each other. "Kill her!" Nia shouted and Roan charged first, striking his sword but I dodged. He quickly backed away and waved the blade I stopped with my weapon, pushing him back.
I fought corresponding to his left movements and struck his sword. Shuffling back, I spun on my tow to hit but his sword stopped it and I stepped back, quickly swatted again and the blade cut his left sleeve, revealing red blood.
