Kat

I was forced to sit in the kitchen and help my mom sew some blankets for the market in town. We have never been there so I don't understand why we are making the blankets, but it's best not to disagree or talk back to dad. He sat in the living room watching tv, watching some kind of football show and making sure that we were both actually doing the work. My brother was nowhere to be seen, so I'm guessing he was sent into town by himself today.

Dad doesn't like to leave us at home alone very much. He thinks that we will leave the house and escape from him. That thought has come into my head, but I wouldn't dare to even try in the case that he may catch me. When they do both have to leave, he makes sure we are locked in the basement, all the windows are locked and the front door is locked as well, just as a precaution.

I hate when we are forced into the basement because it's dark, cold and I never know how long we stay in there. There was one time where he left for a couple of days and forget that we were down there. Mom and I were in the basement for almost two weeks. When he let us go, my body had shrunk down and I looked like a twig that you would find in the forest.

Dad was chugging back his beer and tossing the can at the screen when my brother came dashing through the door. My heart race as I know dad hates too much noise when his game is on. I had been pushed down the stairs by my brother one time and dad broke my arm along with my nose, because he didn't find out who won the game.

"WHO THE HELL IS MAKING ALL THAT NOISE?! IT BETTER NOT BE YOU KATHERINE, THIS TIME YOU WILL NOT SURVIVE!"

Dad stormed into the kitchen to see Ethan, my brother, catching his breath and sweat dripping down his forehead.

"Dad, they caught me. I tried really hard to not be seen, but the screaming got louder as I sliced his stomach open."

Dad's eyes widened as Ethan began explaining how he tried everything he could to silence the girl, she wouldn't be quiet. I looked back and forth between the two as they gave each other certain looks. Dad walked back into the living room, turned the tv off and started yelling at us to grab things.

I grabbed my favourite rock that I found with Sebastian when he fell and broke his arm. My mother didn't grab anything, she just stayed sitting at the table, still knitting the blanket and pretend like the chaos around her didn't exist.

We all got out of the house and got into the car. Dad and Ethan got in the front because they said they need to hide us and no one wants to see us. Dad started the car but he got out walked back to the house. I watched him through the window, he stood on the porch taking out his lighter. A tear slipped down my face as I watched the house go up into flames. It didn't take long for the whole to be on fire, because it's an old house and it was falling apart anyways.

He got into the car and we drove off. The house behind us crashed into pieces. I have no idea why he lit it on fire, but I'm kinda glad he did. No one deserves to see that house anymore, it will haunt anyone who goes near it.

We drove down the road, zooming past the huge forest. I wanted to know why we were going so far and where we were going.

"Where are we going? What did Ethan do?"

"Shut up! No more questions!"

"But we-"

"God damm it! Shut the fuck up like your mother," he said as he whipped his head around and pointed to me,  "If I could I would pull over and slice your throat open!"

I sat back in my seat and looked away from him. He turned back to the road and kept on driving. There was something on the road ahead of us and as we got closer I saw it was a deer, taking its sweet time to cross the road. My dad was busy opening his beer and didn't see the dear getting closer.

"Dad!" Ethan got his attention and he swerved the car to the side.

"Stupid deer." He said as he drove past it and looked back to see it still standing, barely affected. My breath was coming back to normal when my body was wiped to the side, my neck cracked and the left side of my body smashed into the side of the door.

---

My eyes fluttered open and I saw flooding dripping from my nose. There was no feeling in my body or my head. I pushed myself to move and I felt my body go cold. I looked down and I could see my body pressed up against the car door. Why can I see my own body lying there? Did I die?

In the front seat was Ethan's body unconscious laying on the dashboard. Beside my body was my mother with her head flopped to the side. She was bleeding from the head, neck, arm almost everywhere. I looked in the driver's seat and to my surprise, dad wasn't there. My body moved its self to the outside of the car.

His body must have been tossed out the window when the car crashed. Dad was gripped on the spilled beer can and the bone was sticking out of his arm. I looked at the whole crash. He must have been distracted when he looked back at the deer. The drinking also didn't help.

I sat on the ground watching the ambulances and police cars pull up to the crash. They pulled all the bodies out and put them in body bags. The only one they didn't put in a body bag was mine. My body was put onto a stretcher and they lifted it into the ambulance. If my body isn't dead, then why am I a ghost. People say that when you die, you become a ghost, but I'm not dead.

I floated into the ambulance and sat by my body, watching them hook things up to me. I wasn't breathing so how am I not dead.

"She has a pulse, we need to go faster!"

The ambulance pulled away from the crash and sped down the highway, passing by many cars that moved to the side to get out of the way. The EMTs kept my body stable as we raced to the hospital.

---

The nurses and doctors got me all hooked up to all the machines. They had to put a tube to my mouth, forcing me to breathe so I could stay alive.

"How long do you think she's going to be like this?" The nurse stood at the end of my bed, watching the machine push air into my lungs.

"I don't know, but she seems like she'll push through." The doctor rested his hand on my wrist and gripped onto it. He and the nurse watched me as my body was forced to survive.

How long have I been out? Why was I the only one to survive? Will I stay in a coma forever? Do the doctors have to eventually pull the plug on me? I have so many questions but who can answer them.

See this chapter is much longer than the last one. Last one I didn't know what to put in it, cause I didn't want to spoil this chapter. Sadly there are two more chapters left. I'm glad you all enjoyed it. Can't wait for you to read my new book that's coming out soon. Take a look at my other books while you're at it.
