"Cognition is more than thought, but also feeling... One's heart contains infinite possibilities... Desire makes a heart beat, but what happens when that desire becomes distorted?"
'I can't even begin to truly comprehend what that could even mean. Could this research seriously be related to the metaverse? That's what I had originally thought, but now that I have the information, this seems more complicated...'
"What made you interested in my mother's research out of the blue?" Futaba asks. "You never seemed that invested before..."
It was a Sunday afternoon and you had come to visit Futaba for the day since you were completely free for the first time in a while.
You were currently reading up on Wakaba Isshiki's research since Futaba had brought up more findings from hacking servers to retrieve her mother's research. After hearing her speak about it for so long, you had asked to read a little more in-depth this time around.
"Oh, well I had just remembered it a while ago when I was talking with some people from school," you answer while handing her back the folder full of the information on cognition. You sit back on her bed with your arms behind you supporting your weight, "I'm sorry. I came here to spend time with you and I ended up getting carried away with all this."
"It's fine..." Futaba hugs her arms around her legs as she crouches on her gamer chair. You smile at her innocent demeanor and change the subject.
"So, little Sakura. Any new video games recently? Anime? Movies? Interests?"
"No... not really..."
"I see. Need any recommendations? I have some pretty good ones," you say convincingly, though you sounded more like a parent trying to be cool.
Futaba sighs and tilts her head, "Why do you always want to talk about me? What about you?"
You laugh. "If you want to hear some interesting stuff, then you got the wrooong person sitting here with you."
Futaba groans childishly, "Don't you have anything interesting to share? What about school?"
You hum to yourself and think for a moment. 'I became a member of a group of phantom thieves who steal hearts to serve justice to bad people because I gained a crazy powerful persona by accidentally stumbling upon another reality based on human cognition that sounds a lot like your mother's research though I'm not quite sure... but there's no way in hell I can tell you any of that.'
You pull yourself from your implausible thoughts and give an interesting but distracting response as your answer. "School is fine. Well... actually...I don't know if you saw the news about Shujin Academy and the P.E teacher... but that's pretty much about it. Nothing else out of the ordinary," you say somewhat quickly.
Other than Sojiro, Futaba was also able to sniff out your bullcrap pretty damn easily.
'Maybe I'm not that good a liar? But if that were true, then how did I make it this far without getting caught up in my lie to protect my past?'
You quietly scoff at yourself but Futaba speaks up before your thoughts continued.
"What about friends? Do you still not have any?"
