❝ mind introducing me to your friend granger ? ❞
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
"SHUT IT!" GINNY SHOUTED, pulling all the gryffindor hopefuls out of their conversations. harry had been trying to grasp their attention for the last five minutes, although he was unsuccessful.
ron and maeve— who had taken harry's offer and decided to try out— looked up at hermione, who was sat in the stands, offering them a small, encouraging wave. they both grimaced, looking as if they were about to spew up their lunch.
maeve had been gulping all through try-outs as her turn approached. first were the chasers (decided by harry to be katie bell, demelza robins and ginny) and then there was the keeper (who maeve was pleased to be ron, instead of the pompous cormac mclaggen).
and then, when it came to the try-outs for the two beaters, maeve was even more skeptical. she was sure she did not have the brilliance to live up to fred and george's reputations, but harry was pleased with her all the while.
she managed to raise a huge lump to the back harry's head when she rose her beater's-bat, viciously sending a bludger straight towards him. she had tried to apologise, but he just sent her an enthusiastic thumbs up as he rubbed the back of his head in agony.
hermione had leapt up from her seat in the stands, celebrating when the potter boy announced maeve had made the team.
although, harry was pretty sure on maeve's third turn of whacking the bludger, it seemed to be moving comparably slower and easier for her to hit than when it was coming towards richie coote. almost as if it had been tampered with by a confundus charm.
maeve hadn't seemed to notice this though, and was too busy being spoken down to by cormac mclaggen, who had a face like thunder upon hearing the news that ron was to take the keeper position.
"his sister didn't really try," the blonde boy scoffed. "she gave him an easy save!"
"that's rubbish." maeve snapped, sticking up for both of her red-headed best friends. "that was the only one that ron nearly missed. but you on the other hand. . ."
"how dare you!" cormac spat. "i was excellent. if only potter would give me another go, and i could prove so—"
"—no." harry shook his head firmly. "you've had your go. you saved four. ron saved five. ron's keeper, he won it fair and square."
maeve nodded her head in agreement, crossing her arms. "you heard, harry. fair and square."
cormac shook his head, scoffing again. "whatever." his eyes drifted over to hermione, who was watching them from the stands— trying to figure out what the commotion was. "say, foster, mind introducing me to your friend, granger? i wouldn't mind getting on a first-name basis, if you know what i mean?" he smirked, checking the muggle-born out.
