❝ harry, your eyesight really is awful !❞
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
MAEVE NERVOUSLY PACED AROUND HER BEDROOM. in a few minutes, she would be leaving it- and she had no idea whether she would be coming back. she, harry, hermione and ron were to be going horcrux hunting after bill and fleur's wedding. it was the only way to get rid of lord voldemort for once and for all.
her parents were coming to the wedding too, of course, but she still felt like she had to somehow say goodbye to them, aswell. she was saying goodbye to her childhood. the blonde gingerly picked up the framed picture of levi on her desk, tracing her finger along the glass.
the words: "i miss you," barely left maeve's lips, before her door came busting open, and a blur of brown, bushy hair blocked her vision. arms were flung around her neck and the person let out small, stifled sobs.
"hermione?" maeve murmured. "w-what? what's wro—"
"my parents-" hermione interrupted with a sniff, tucking her face closer into maeve's neck. "i performed the memory charm on them. . .it's done."
"hermione—" the blonde gasped. "i know you were thinking about it- but i didn't think you were actually going t- are you okay?"
"it was the only way to keep them safe." hermione nodded weakly, pulling away. "i'm okay. i just— oh, maeve, your picture!" she knelt down on the floor beside the shattered picture of levi. "i'm so sorry— it's my fault—"
the foster girl wiped her eyes, moving to pull out her wand, but hermione already had, and was waving it. "reparo." the glass immediately recovered from smithereens, forming the thin pane and covering the photograph again.
they hugged for a moment more, although it felt like an hour. both of their woollen-jumpers were stained with tears and mixed with the scents of both of their perfumes.
"maeve! it's time to go!" her father called out to them from the bottom of the stairs.
maeve turned to hermione, taking her hand. "are you ready?"
she took one last look around at her childhood room — both sad and happy memories flooding through her brain. it reminded her of when times were easy, and carefree — but it also reminded her of levi.
hermione shrugged. "if you are."
"i'm not," the blonde whispered quietly, her eyes averting to the window in front of her desk. the sun was going down rapidly, casting dark shadows along the horizon. "what if we — what if we don't find anything? i mean, leaving our families behind to go on this elusive hunt for horcruxes? a word we only discovered not long ago, and to make matters worse, we have no idea what they look like, or where to find them, or how to get rid of them."
