Sarah and I went to where Mat told us to meet him. It took us a good few hours to get there, but it was worth it to see Mat again. Sarah and I walked into a giant house filled with people. The music blasted from the speakers. I saw Mat standing on top of a table singing with a few of his buddies.
"Is that-" Sarah asked, looking at Mat.
"That's him," I smiled.
His hair flowed as he bobbed his head. Little drops of sweat fell from his face as I saw him smile. My heart skipped a beat as his eyes interlocked with mine. We both smiled. He got down from the table and ran up to me. He hugged me so tight that I'm pretty sure he squeezed a few of my vital organs out of my body. It was all worth it to see him again.
"It's so good to see you, Maty," I smiled.
"It's good to see you too," He said.
"Wow, you grew up," I said, looking at his figure.
"Yeah, I've gotta get in better shape to play for the Isles though," He told me.
"This is Sarah," I introduced.
"Oh, yeah, hey, Sarah," Mat shook her hand.
"Nice to meet you," Sarah said.
"Nice to meet you, too," Mat said with a smile.
Sarah's phone buzzed.
"Nathan and Connor are here, I'll go find them," Sarah said, walking away.
"Nathan and Connor?" Mat asked.
"Our boyfriends..." I said softly.
"Oh," Mat said.
"I told Nathan about you," I said. "He's interested to meet you,"
"And I'd like to meet the young man dating my best friend," Mat said.
"We're still friends?" I asked, softly.
"Best friends," Mat said. "No doubt,"
I smiled.
"It's so good to see you again," I said.
"Yeah, totally!" Mat said.
"Congrats on being drafted to the Isles, by the way, you completely deserve it!" I told him.
"Thanks," Mat said. "It's a great opportunity for me,"
I felt someone hugging me from behind.
"Nathan," I smiled, looking back at him. "This is Mat,"
Connor and Sarah followed.
"Hey, man, nice to meet you," Mat stuck his hand out for them to shake.
"Yeah," Nathan shook his hand. "You too,"
"You're the Islanders player that they drafted?" Connor asked.
"I am," Mat smiled.
"I'm a huge Islanders fan," Connor said.
"Nice," Mat said. "Wanna get a drink with me?"
"That'd be great," Connor said, following him to the bar.
Mat and Connor left but Nathan stayed.
"What's up with him?" Nathan asked.
"There's nothing wrong with him," I said. "What are you even talking about?"
"He wanted to get drinks with Connor but not me," Nathan said. I could tell he was a bit jealous. "Doesn't that seem kinda odd to you?"
"Nate, Mat's my ex," I said. "He probably just feels weird around you because we used to be together,"
