"...n)"
"(Y/n)!"
I opened my eyes slowly, squinting at the bright light. My head throbbed and my cheek stung, but I didn't know why. "Hey... what's going on...?"
The light slowly dimmed as my eyes adjusted, and I was met with Nishinoya and Sugawara-senpai's worried faces directly in front of mine. I flushed red and scrambled back. "T-Too close!!" I yelped.
"(L/n), I'm so sorry. I really didn't mean to hit you. Especially not so hard." Sugawara-senpai furrowed his eyebrows and frowned.
Ah, so that's what happened...
"It's fine, Sugawara-senpai. Seriously." I waved a hand around nonchalantly and he grabbed it.
"No, really. I'm really sorry. Let me make it up to you. Your whole face is red."
Hah, not just because of that ball...
"M-Make it up to me...? No, it's okay. Don't worry about it." I got up, chuckling lightly. "It was just a stray ball. Happens all the time. I just happened to be the unlucky onlooker who got a face full of it."
"Come on, (l/n), at least let me buy you dinner or something!" He asked.
"Tanaka and Noya are buying me dinner, don't worry."
"Well then, what can I do for you?"
I paused, unsure of what to say. "Uhm, well, I don't wanna trouble you all that much, so maybe you could just like..." I paused once again. "Surprise me...?" His eyes lit up as he grabbed both my hands and nodded. "I'm so sorry, (y/n). This is the second time I've accidentally hit you. I've got to be more careful."
"Nah, it's seriously not a problem. I'm feeling fine." I grinned as I gingerly pulled my hands back and rubbed my head.
"SHE'S FEELING FINE, SIR! YOU DON'T HAVE TO SHUT DOWN THE VOLLEYBALL TEAM!!" Nishinoya yelled across the court towards the Vice Principal. He just frowned and walked off. Professionalism!
"Hey (y/n), are you feeling good enough to still watch the game?" Noya grinned at me.
"Yeah. I just don't think I'll sit at the front." I chuckled and Sugawara-senpai pursed his lips apologetically.
The game continued, and while Morgan and I were watching, she decided to spark conversation.
"So he mentioned that it was the second time he hit you. Care to elaborate?" She poked my cheek as I rolled my eyes. "We bumped into each other in the hallway. Simple as that." I shrugged as she began to shake my arm.
"You're telling me exactly what happened!"
So I did. What was I supposed to do, not give in to my best friend of whom I tell everything to? Yeah, I was supposed to do that, I think...
"Oh my god!" She clutched her stomach and cackled as I tried to shut her up. The team was getting slightly distracted. "That is the most cliché thing I've heard this year!" She wheezed. "Shut up, you're distracting the players!" I hissed as she quieted down, still laughing. "Sorry, sorry. But seriously? He seriously knocked into you and sent you and your books flying?" I looked down and nodded as she covered her mouth and laughed. "That's amazing. So amazing."
So team B won, but it was really close. A 22-23 set match out of 4 sets. I was sitting on the edge of my seat, and it was pretty much just a practise match. The Karasuno VB club was remarkable.
"So, (Y/n)," Noya said through a mouthful of food, "Suga said he was going to surprise you after he whacked you in the head. Any idea what he's planning?"
"Nope, it's called a surprise for a reason." I grinned and dug my chopsticks into the noodles. (A/n: If you're lactose intolerant or something, they could be rice noodles or something)
"Naw, but seriously, that was one of Suga's strongest tosses we've seen." Ryu chuckled. "I saw his face as he threw it, he was so happy he tossed something so well, and then you got hit in the face. He was mortified. But you did look funny." I whacked his arm and frowned as he laughed. "Noya, what're you thinking?"
"What'm I thinking of what?"
"Whaddaya think Senpai has planned to surprise (y/n)?"
"Ohhhhh..." Noya paused for a second, thinking. "I reckon... y'know, he's been asking around about you. Suga's a real nice guy. Real mom. I think he'll get you some different things you like, and then the whole school assumes he's courting you." He chuckled as I flushed red and threw a noodle at his face.
"Yeah, good point. I can't wait to see how this turns out." Ryu grinned as Noya whined and threw the noodle back at me. I caught it mid-air, then paused, realising something.
"Noya, why did you say that he's been asking around about me?"
"Cuz he has." He replied. "I saw him speaking to Morgan as we left. She looked so amused so I listened in just a little, and he was all like, 'so she likes (f/f) and (f/c)?' So I knew he was talking about you."
"O-oh." I started eating my noodles rapidly and felt Ryu and Noya's confused stares.
"She likes him, doesn't she, Noya?"
"Most definitely she does." I whipped my head up and frowned, undoubtedly red.
"I do not!" I retorted as they laughed in sync.
