Saturday afternoon Hinata decided to report his assault to the authorities, so Kageyama went with him and held his hand as they described the events. Then, after getting that unpleasant business past them, they spent the rest of the weekend together, relaxing, hanging out, finishing homework and, well, other activities as well. All of their friends had checked in with Hinata, making sure he was OK and asking if he needed anything. Even Miya texted to apologize again.
On Monday afternoon, Kageyama met Hinata outside his last class and they walked together, hand-in-hand to practice. They had decided they were just going to be out in the open about their relationship right away. When they arrived at the locker room and the others noticed their hand holding and smiles, everyone was really nice and congratulated them. The mood in the locker room was light and everyone was relaxed, until Miya came in, looking a bit pale and timid.
Some of the guys who knew what happened, including Kuroo, Bokuto and Noya, became quiet at the newcomer's entrance, but Miya focused on Hinata and went to where he was sitting on a bench in front of this locker.
"Hey, Hinata. Are you doing OK? I, um, wanted to apologize again for the other night. You're my friend and I never meant for anything to happen to you. It was just a stupid mistake. I really am sorry."
Hinata recognized that Miya had been feeling pretty bad and chose to cut the guy a break. "It's OK, Miya. I know it's not your fault. But I don't think we'll be hanging out much any more. I'm with Kags now." Hinata grabbed Kageyama's hand and squeezed it as he waited for the blond boy to respond.
Miya smiled faintly and said sincerely, "That's great, I'm happy for you two. You make a great couple." He turned to head across the room to his own locker and everyone seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. Even Kageyama had to admit that he wasn't nearly as angry with Miya as he had been, and that maybe Pisshead wasn't such a bad guy after all.
Out in the gym, the mood was a little more serious and much quieter than usual without the idiots Bokuto, Kuroo, Noya and Miya feeding off of each other's insanity. As he stretched, Kageyama noticed Miya stretching with Sakusa. Although Miya was a little more subdued than normal, he appeared friendly and open with Sakusa, who was watching the blond setter with intent and smiling slightly at his words. Kags wondered to himself if Sakusa had a chance, and sort of hoped he did.
Throughout the practice, Hinata was mostly back to his old self, and Kageyama was super focused and accurate. He felt invincible. When everyone else was ready to go home, Hinata was still full of energy and didn't want to go home yet. "Kageyama, toss to me?" And of course, Kageyama agreed.
After a while, they left the gym together, holding hands again because apparently Kageyama could not stand to not be touching his boyfriend for long. Hinata was pumped about practice and their upcoming tournament and practically hung on Kageyama while chatting excitedly. Kageyama was satisfied just listening to the Tangerine's exclamations and sound effects and watching his cute face and expressions, and smiled repeatedly down at his boyfriend while enjoying their physical closeness. He felt content.
After a rare minute of silence, Hinata looked up at Kageyama and said earnestly "Thank you for being my setter. I love your tosses." Kags smiled again and wondered how he got so lucky. Hinata continued "And thanks for being my boyfriend. I love your, um, well, everything about you." Kageyama looked away briefly and blushed a bit, but it made him unbelievably happy to hear that. Because he knew that he almost lost everything to his rival, including his position and his boyfriend. And he vowed that he would never again let Hinata think he didn't care about him. Although, it's hard for Kageyama to talk about his feelings, he knew that he would do it for Hinata. That he would do anything for Hinata.
"Thanks for being my spiker. I love tossing to you. And thanks for being my boyfriend. I love everything about you, Shoyo." He stops and kisses him softly as Hinata sighs and moans, and they go home and show each other how much they love each other.

[A week later]
The tournament had just ended and the guys were riding high on their win. The whole team had played incredibly well. Kageyama's and Hinata's freak quick left the other blockers scrambling and their opponents never seemed to be able to effectively stop the attack. Sakusa was on fire with his powerful spikes, and the other team repeatedly struggled to receive them. Bokuto was also in good form and had the crowd all rowdy with his interactions with the audience. Kuroo had done an excellent job blocking the other team's ace, and in all, they had won in straight sets. It was time for celebration.
They were having a party for the team and some other close friends at Kuroo's and Bokuto's apartment. Kageyama was in the living talking with Hinata and Noya when he saw Sakusa and Miya arrive together. He smiled a bit to himself.
Throughout the night, normal party shenanigans ensued. Hinata got a little tipsy, but Kageyama stayed sober and kept an eye on his boyfriend. He didn't miss drinking. He figured he didn't have any sorrows to drown anymore.
At one point Kageyama was in the kitchen when he found himself facing Sakusa. Neither of them had ever been big talkers, but Kageyama found himself asking the older boy: "So. You and Miya?"
Sakusa blushed slightly. "Yeah."
Kageyama says "Nice. Congrats"
Sakusa took a drink and responded "You and Hinata are finally together?" When Kageyama nodded, Sakusa replied "Took you long enough." Kageyama smiled as Miya returned to the kitchen and settled in closer to the spiker. It's still a little awkward between the two setters, but it was getting better.
Later that evening, Kageyama was watching Hinata and Noya argue about the best pocky flavor from across the room. Hinata seemed to stop for a moment and looked a bit startled as his eyes traveled nervously around the room, looking for Kageyama. When his brown eyes finally met his boyfriend's blue ones, he visibly relaxed. Kageyama mouthed the words "I'm here" to him. Hinata looked relieved, sent him a smile, and returned to his argument.
Kageyama thought to himself, I'll always be here for you, Shoyo. As long as you'll have me.
