Aria's POV
I get out of my moms car, approaching one of the police officers.
"Excuse me, excuse me." I say all jittery.
"Back up, ma'am." He puts his arm out in front of me. "This is a scene of unlawful conduct."
"I know who lives here and I promise you, you've got the situation all wrong."
"Don't care for nosy neighbors." He tries to dismiss me.
"No, you don't understand! This is my-" My breath catches in my throat as I see a stubby police officer walk Jacob out the door with handcuffs.
"What about the other guy? I mean he's my dad. This is my dads house."
"Your dad was assaulted by that man right there. Your mom or some woman called saying that there was lunatic beating her husband."
I look over at Jacob, blood is on his neck and his knuckles are cut open. Brand new bruises.
"But my dad hit him back."
"In self defense, ma'am. Why don't you go check on your dad? We'll be in touch soon. Let us know when he's done at the hospital so he can come make a statement."
The hospital? Oh my god.
"What happened there?" The cop finally looks at me. "Was it that guy? Do you know him?" The interrogation starts.
My hand subconsciously hovers over the wound. Then I realize what he just asked.
"What?! No, no. He would never do that. My dad did this to me." I look back over at Jacob who's being shoved into the back of a cop car.
"Do you know him?" He refers to Jacob.
"Yes, yes. I do. He's my boyfriend."
"Well," his brows raise. "Your boyfriends in a lot of trouble. We're gonna detain him in Skyline for now. Can't guarantee anything that will happen after that. I do recommend going to the station to report that hit on your face. You most likely need to make a statement too."
One of the cops yells something about Jacob being from out of state while holding up his wallet.
"Can I meet you at the Station? I have a car." I point down the street.
"Sure." He walks off.
I bolt for the steering wheel. I shut the drivers door and pull out my phone. My hands are all shaky as click on the contact app. I tap Aaron's name and put him on speaker, starting up the engine. I peel off the curb as Benicio and his wife come out being aided by a police officer. I don't get a good look at Benicio but I see red all over him as I drive off.
"Hey Aria!" Aaron finally picks up the phone.
"Jacob's been arrested." I get right to it. "Aaron I don't know what to do. I'm freaking out, okay?!"
"Okay, okay. I hear you. What the hell happened?" I know he's trying to remain calm because one of us has to.
"I came to see my biological dad. Tie up loose ends. Pretty much cut him out of my life and make it stick with him. We got into a fight where he ended up . . . Well, he hit me. Jacob lost it and went to go do I don't know what. I've never seen him like that Aaron. And Jacob had been angry plenty."
"I'm sorry, the bastard did what?! How could you not expect Jacob to lose his shit?"
"I know, I know but violence wouldn't help anything."
"Doesn't matter. That asshole deserved whatever he got. Deep down inside you know it too. I'm gonna let Jace know. You'll probably just have to post bail. If Jacob has to go against pressed charges then he'll to state his case before the judge. He only got charged of assault right?"
