Jacob's POV

The difference from California weather to New York is deadly. Jesus Christ. I drive straight from the airport to the penthouse. I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little frightened. I've never been like this when it came to the gang. I have no idea what the fuck is going on but it's as if the whole thing with Aria completely shifted this situation. Changed everything about it.

"No, I'm not going." A bratty voice is the first thing I hear when I walk in through the elevator doors.

"Yes you are. Your shit is already packed. You leave tomorrow at five." Jace's irritation is through the roof.

I follow their voices, finding them in the dining room. Sammy. Should've been able to guess that. The only fifteen year old in this gang. She's not exactly in this gang, she's useful but far too young. I've only interacted with her once within the last year she's been with us.

"Hey." I pull Jace away from him stressed nose-bridge pinching. He notices me.

"J, you're back. You didn't call." He seems a little more at ease now.

"No, this conversation isn't over. You don't get to just dismiss me." Sammy speaks up.

"Well, you're gonna be disappointed because I'm done."

"I can stay here. I'll be safe. You don't need to worry about me."

"He almost killed you. You're not staying here. End of discussion. Sit the fuck down." Jace raises his voice.

"You're being an asshole!" She whines. She crosses her arms over her chest with a pissed off, twitching brow.

"I'm keeping you safe but whatever satisfies your immature, little mind." Jace rolls his eyes, walking away from her.

"What's up?" I ask.

"You wanna eat? That plane food must've been crap. They made brunch." He gestures to the dinner table full of breakfast foods.

"Sure. Where are the other guys?" I take a seat and lean back.

"They'll be here any minute."

I nod and grab a couple grapes.

"What happened to her?" I gesture to the angsty teen across the room. She gives me a glare.

"She was listening in like always. She got caught. This creep brought her out back. He almost slit her throat. She was shaken up about it, crying and all. Now she's angry because I'm trying to send her away." He explains.

"Some bastard held a knife to defenseless girl's throat?" They're lower than low.

"I'm not defenseless." She claims. "I don't have to be flown all the way to some snobby boarding school in France just to be kept safe. I should stay here."

"No you shouldn't." I simply say, ignoring her glaring gaze.

"What say do you have in this?" She tries her attitude on me.

"A lot considering I'm the underboss. Jace wants you out. You're out. Have a good time in France though. I heard it's nice in spring."

"Are you serious right now? That's not fair-"

"Not fair?" I stand up and walks towards her. "You're fifteen. You're a fucking kid. Putting your life on the line before you even start your own, that's unfair. I may seem like a huge dick but to be clear I'd like to see you not die." I go back to where I was sitting and put some more food on my plate.

That seemed to shut her up. She just stand theres attempting to come up with another argument.

"Come eat Sammy." Jace says and as if he commanded that of everyone in the household, the rest of the guys walk in.
