Hazel's POV
"Sooo, how was the talk with Percy?" Thalia asked Annabeth, as they made their way to the changing rooms for P.E.
"Ohhh, yeah, when's the wedding?" Piper teased, pushing Annabeth's shoulder lightly.
Hazel stayed quiet, knowing that if she dared say anything Annabeth would probably mention her slight crush on Frank.
When Annabeth didn't answer, Hazel looked towards her and saw an interesting look on her face. It was an odd mixture of interest, sadness, realisation and anger.
What happened? Hazel thought. She'd never seen Annabeth act like that. Annabeth would usually tell them to leave her alone with some impolite words, but today she was completely silent.
Hazel looked across the group of girls, seeing that everyone looked slightly confused, except for Reyna, who had a knowing look on her face.
Hazel was still scared of her. Over the course of the day, she'd talked to Percy and gotten to know him, realising that he was quite sweet underneath his intimidating aura.
But Reyna was a different story. She was quiet unless she was around Percy or Thalia, she always held her perfect posture, and when she was approached by someone outside of their group, she gave him a glare so unnerving he ran away instantly.
The only one who didn't seem bothered at all by Reyna's demeanour was Thalia, who kept teasing her, telling her idiotic puns and slinging an arm around her shoulder.
Hazel was so lost in thought that she walked right into someone. That someone just so happened to be Frank.
"Frankimsosorryididntseeyou." Hazel said, her voice speeding up as she felt her face burn. Why did it have to be Frank of all people?
"Oh, no it's fine don't worry." Frank replied. Hazel looked up and couldn't help but smile at his slightly red face. "Uhhh, I, uhhh, need to get to the changing rooms."
Hazel blinked as Frank ran off to the boys changing rooms. She turned back to her friends and saw they were all either laughing or giving her a look of disapproval.
"When are you finally going to ask him out, Haze?" Piper asked her.
Two can play at that game. Hazel thought.
"When you ask Jason out." she shot back, beginning to walk towards the changing rooms again.
Hazel smirked, satisfied, as she heard the other girls burst out laughing behind her.
"Oh she's amazing. I like her." she heard Reyna say, but she wasn't exactly sure how she should take it.
Hazel led the way to the changing rooms, opening the doors, before pulling Annabeth aside for a moment.
"Hey, you ok? That talk with Percy didn't go well, did it?" Hazel said tentatively.
"No... I mean, kinda? It wasn't really a talk, it was more him explaining something... something that I'm not sure I can face yet." Annabeth replied with a weak smile.
"Wow, these changing rooms smell much better than the ones at my old schools. They just smelled like sweat, drugs, alcohol, bad decisions, and on occasion, sex." Reyna noted with a laugh as they all started changing.
"Schools? Plural?" Annabeth suddenly perked up.
"Yeah, me and Percy got kicked out of a lot of schools. Mainly because one of us would get bullied and the other would beat the bully up, getting kicked out and then the one that got bullied would leave as well." Reyna explained.
