The doctor carefully checked Monique's vital signs, his expression grim as he noted the gradual decline in her heartbeat. The steady rhythm was slowing, and there was no sign of improvement. He sighed deeply, unable to mask the growing concern in his voice.
"This... this isn't good," the doctor murmured, shaking his head in quiet frustration.
Monique's mother sobbed quietly, her body trembling as she clutched her hands together in prayer. Her father, trying his best to hold it together, gently wrapped his arm around her, his face a mixture of anguish and helplessness.
"How long do you think it will take for her to wake up?" Monique's father asked, his voice barely above a whisper, filled with worry and desperation.
The doctor took a moment before answering, his tone flat and clinical. "We don't know, sir," he replied. "Her vitals are weakening. There's been no improvement over the past few months. We've done everything we can, but..." He paused, his eyes shifting towards the monitors. "The injuries to her head are severe. That's the main reason it's taking so long for her to wake up. And even then... we don't know if she will."
The silence in the room was suffocating, the weight of the doctor's words hanging in the air like a heavy fog. Her parents were speechless, lost in the sorrow of the unknown, each of them holding onto the fragile thread of hope that one day, Monique would open her eyes again

A few days later
Suddenly, my eyes shot open, and I immediately frowned, confused by my surroundings. Where am I? I thought, my mind still foggy. I sat up, glancing around the room. The TV was on, the PlayStation left running, and my guitar was casually resting beside my bed. I tried to shake off the fogginess, but as soon as I stood up, a sharp pain shot through me, making me wince in agony.
Ow! I yelped, realizing too late that my arm was connected to an IV drip. In my panic, I yanked the needle out, and blood started to drip down my arm. Frantically, I wiped it with my shirt, trying to make sense of the situation.
What the hell... I muttered under my breath, realizing with a jolt that I was in my room. Why is it so messy? I scowled. They knew I hated this-why did they let it get like this?
"Mom! Dad!" I called out, but no answer came.
I felt a cold shiver run through me as I looked out the window. Am I in Korea? I wondered, thoroughly confused. The scene outside felt strangely familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I thought about it for a second, then something clicked.
I know this scene! I whispered, my eyes widening with realization. I immediately ran to the door and locked it, my heart racing.
Zombies? I thought, recalling the movie 28 Days Later. Is this how it starts? I jumped up onto the couch, grabbed a telescope, and peered through the lens.
There was no sign of life. Great, I groaned, I've just woken up with the worst headache ever, and now I have to fight zombies?
I sighed in exasperation and began to think through my options. After a minute of deliberation, I jumped to my feet, determined to look presentable in case I had to battle some undead. I headed straight for the game room-my collection of knives and swords was waiting for me.
I grabbed the katana, feeling its weight in my hands. This is it, I thought, nodding to myself with a sense of determination. I'm ready.
I sprinted out of the room and carefully tiptoed down the stairs. The house was eerily quiet, and I moved with stealth, trying not to make a sound. I was just about to open the front door when I heard footsteps approaching.
