Chapter One: Annabeth

Free falling through a pitch black pit called Tartarus was how Annabeth ended her day after breaking her ankle by doing her mom a favor and retrieving the Athena Parthenus. The only good thing was that she was with her boyfriend, Percy.

"As long as we're together" that was the last thing she had told him before he let go of that tiny ledge. He had told Nico to promise to lead the others to the doors of death. No pressure. One problem was in order to close the doors of death was Percy and Annabeth had to live long enough to even find the doors to help close them. The stupid web still attached to her ankle pulled. Why? Why didn't she remember the web she could have cut the web, right now she could be arm and arm with all her friends back at the Argo II. Annabeth suddenly had the longing to see Jason and Piper she wouldn't even mind seeing Leo and his corny jokes. Annabeth barely knew Hazel and Frank but she longed to see their faces. Hedge, she wondered how he was and if he knows that she and Percy were gone. She remembered when they got in trouble and Hedge had grounded  Annabeth. Nico was so sick and fragile looking he didn't have the strong look in his eyes he had before. Annabeth sighed at the fading memories of her friends. She looked into Percy's worried green eyes and knew he was thinking the same thing.

"Do you really think Nico can lead the others?" Annabeth asked.

"Yes, I know he can, when that kid wants something he doesn't give up, not without a fight." Percy said.

"If we live this you do know Arachne will to, Right? Maybe she doesn't-" Annabeth never finished her sentence. A sleepy voice filled the room.

"Don't fear half-bloods, the fall won't kill you." Gaea’s voice boomed through the pit.

"Where are you Dirt face!? If you’re so scary why don't you-" Percy stammered.

"Be quiet half-blood if you know what's good for you. And since I'm goddess of the earth I know you stupid half-bloods call me Dirt face and truly it's quite rude. As I was saying why would I kill my V.I.Ps when they have to watch me rise? I will awaken, destruction will rule and your friends will die. Once your blood spills on the ground beneath my throne I shall rise. There will be no stopping me. Your friends are going to fail and thanks to my Eidolon for possessing Leo and firing at the roman camp. The two camps declared war on each other, so they won't be any help to your little cause. My army is meant to find you and bring you to me, alive so good luck half-bloods." and with that the sleepy voice of the evil earth goddess Gaea was just an echo bouncing on the walls.

“Percy, why did you jump after me?"

"Because I lost you for six months thanks to Hera and I wasn’t planning on losing you again." he said.

"Percy when do you think this will end, this pit has to have some sort of ground?" Annabeth asked softly.

"I don't know but for now we are together so who cares." They fell through the dark pit for five for minutes the small blue spot that was the sky was gone.

"FLOOR! Percy what do we do?" Annabeth shrieked.

"I guess we hope for the best." Annabeth looked down and saw the ground getting closer and closer until you could count the rocks sticking out of the ground. She tightly closed her eyes bracing the impact. Then she felt Percy move, she didn't know what he did, but then the impact hit.

She had bit her tongue and pain danced along her back. That wasn't the cause of the crack and the moan that followed it. Then it hit her, Percy had moved so that he would take the blow.

"Percy wake up! Are you okay? You’re an idiot you could have died! Wake up please!" Annabeth found herself sobbing. Percy’s eyes fluttered open and he chuckled

"Yeah I'm fine but I'd be a lot better if you got off of me you weigh more than a feather" Annabeth rolled her eyes and stood up. She held out her hand for Percy to grab but once he was standing he paled. "I think I broke a rib from the fall." Percy said. Annabeth looked around and saw her back pack.

"Percy, sit and stay while I grab my book bag over there." she pointed.

"I'm not a dog wise girl." she chuckled and limped over to her book bag and brought it back over.

"Oh no! Percy my laptop and my dagger they are gone! All that here is smashed ambrosia and string." she said shocked.

“That’s all we need" with that he took the string and tied it around his wrist and them hers. "We will be stuck together now." he smiled. Annabeth read through his smile and saw pain.

"Percy you need ambrosia."

"No save it, we will need it." he said stubbornly. "Where on earth are Piper and her charmspeak when you need it? If you don't I'll give it to you when you’re sleeping!" Annabeth said. He shook his head. "Seaweed brain"

"Wise girl". A car from the parking lot fell next to Annabeth and she screamed. After the long day they started cracking up.

Their laughter was not long lived for a cackle of pure hatred leaked into the room. The cackle of Arachne.
