Modern Day Marley

The year is 858, taking place in the reestablishing country of Marley.

The large capital city of Marley was under construction when Levi, Gabi, and Falco were going on their evening stroll.

"This city is filthy." Grunts Levi, being pushed by Falco in his wheelchair.

"You say that everytime we come here, old man." Gabi says sternly while admiring the construction.

"Out of all places I'd figure I'd live, here would've been the last one of them." Levi complains. Gabi glances at Falco with a grin.

"Well I'll have you know we won't be staying here for long!" Falco says while showing Levi three tickets in his hand.

From: The Marleyan Empire

To: The Empire of New Eldia

"Queen Historia invited us to Eldia for the holidays!" Exclaimed Falco. "She mailed us a letter a couple weeks ago and these tickets. We were going to tell you but Gabi said it should be a surprise." Levi glances at the tickets unamused as he takes them out of Falco's hand.

"And what about the tea shop?" Levi mentions.

"Oh you big worrywart! Don't worry Ms. Armstrong said she'd have no problem working there while we're gone." Gabi says focusing her attention on Levi.

"Ms. Armstrong? Who was that again?" Levi asked confused.

"The lady that lives across from us with a huge crush on you dingus!" Gabi shouts appalled.

"Oh. The brunette then. She's nice."

Gabi scoffs and rolls her eyes. "Anyways, we're headed to the ports right now so be ready to ride a ship."

"The letter Historia sent, what did it say?" Asks Levi.

"Well I suppose you can read it for yourself" Gabi says pulling the letter out of the large bag she brought with them and handing it to Levi.

"To Falco Grice, Gabi Braun, and Levi Ackerman of Marley,

I've sent this letter to you all with many blessings. I heard Levi has opened a tea shop and that a wedding for Gabi and Falco has been arranged for a few months from now. My happiness for you all is immeasurable. With the holidays arriving, I wanted to see if you all would be willing to come to Eldia and visit me! Pieck has also requested to see you, as she has not been able to visit you all in Marley due to the delivery of her baby. I've also invited Reiner to come as well, although I heard he lives in a remote area and not with you all so sending a letter to him will be a bit more difficult. Oh well, that's the postman's job not mine. My baby Freida, is also having her 4th birthday party and I'd love for you all to attend. The confirmed attendees that you all know have been Armin, Mikasa, Jean, Pieck, Connie, and Annie. If for whatever reason you wish to decline due to... past experiences with these people I understand completely. However, I can assure you that the past is all water under the bridge. I've also sent 3 tickets for all of you with this letter in hopes you will come. Please let me know!

"So you brats accepted her invitation without consulting me first" Levi says annoyed.

"Listen you ungrateful old man! If you're so unhappy we can just turn around right now!" Gabi exclaims.

"Well... it'd be rude not to show up at this point."

"Alright well now that that's settled, can we all form a truce while on the ship please?" Falco says concerned.

"Hmph. I suppose." Gabi says turning her head away from Levi and crossing her arms.

The group proceeds to arrive at the ports and board the ship. There are only a small group of people there and in the distance Gabi sees someone looking over the ship's railing.

"Reiner!" Gabi cheered.

The well built man turned around as Gabi ran up and hugged him.

"Gabi." Reiner says softly.

"I haven't seen you in ages! Why don't you come and visit anymore?"

"I... I've had a lot going on in the past months. With the government continuing to grow they've been trying to tax my land and offered me a job in the military again as chief commanding officer. I keep declining and the taxes on my land are getting higher and higher. I haven't managed to make time to visit any of you. When I got Historia's letter it was an offer I couldn't turn down. I also figured it'd keep the damned vultures away. Hell I'd move to Eldia at this point if it weren't for the fact that I'd be assassinated." Reiner said mournfully.

"Well yeah I guess that's a good reason..." Gabi chuckled awkwardly. "I mean if you just enlisted in the military again you'd be set and loaded! You could live in one of the nicest houses in Marley!"

"Gabi... I've spent more than half my life in war. I'm done with it all now. Whether it be training future cadets or fighting on the frontlines I can't go back to it. I was an ambassador for Marley for a bit but I resigned so I could live a quiet life. I have a dog now! Her name is Lola, a brown bay retriever. I managed to find a sitter for her so I could come here but she's one of the best hunting dogs around. I just wanna relax but those tax collecting bastards won't give me a break."

"Well... you could always just come live with me and Falco! Levi might be hard to get used to but the old man's in a wheelchair and has become a bit of a softie having lived with us."

"Heh... thanks for the offer but I'll have to decline. Him being in a wheelchair hasn't made him any less frightening. Besides, I doubt you all have room for me *and* a dog. Lola has really been the only thing keeping me company so I wouldn't be able to sell her. I also have enjoyed hunting with her and living in the city will keep me from doing that."

"Reiner!" Falco shouted bringing Levi with him. "I'm surprised you came!"

"Well I wouldn't miss seeing Queen Historia for the world."

"Good to see you all well Reiner. Looks like you've gained some weight." Levi mentioned looking up at him.

"Thank you, Levi" Reiner said, chuckling then nodding his head towards him as a gesture of respect. "The letter Historia returned to my RSVP said Armin and Annie would be the ones greeting us once the ship arrives at Eldia."

"Well alright then. It was nice catching up with you Reiner but I think we should get to our compartments so we can get situated." Falco said.

"Bye bye you three" Reiner waved as Gabi, Falco, and Levi walked away. The ship started departing from the ports and Reiner went back to looking over the ocean. It was a beautiful blue and the shining sea sparkled more than it had any other day.
