Historia Reiss, looked outside the window of her castle bedroom as the sun began to rise. Her and her husband Otto had been sharing different rooms for the past month due to complications in their marriage. She'd recently visited Reiner Braun in a military camp, to see where he was mentally and if he was suit to become the godfather of her daughter. The timing of all this is coincidental, some may say. But as she looked out of her window the thought of seeing her last sunrise began to stir her stomach.
"Mommy..?" Frieda said quietly as she began to open the door. "I tried to get into daddy's room but his door was locked."
"Oh what are you doing up this early?" Historia said softly, and picked up her daughter to look at the sun tower over the rest of the castle.
"It's my birthday" Frieda replied with a big smile on her face. Historia returned a soft one.
"Yes, yes it is."
"Are we going to go to the orphanage today? I want my friends to know."
"We only go during the summer season. Mommy and daddy are really busy right now. But I'll tell you what, we can have an even bigger party there when the time comes." Historia smiled at her daughter. "It's quite early, why don't you find Mr. Braun and ask him to go on a walk with you?" She dismissed.
"Where's his room?" Frieda asked before leaving.
"Just down the hall and a turn away from yours. The first one on the left." Historia replied, opening the door in her room to let Frieda out. She watched as her daughter walked gracefully down the halls, like the princess she is.
"Mr. Braun! Reiner!" Frieda skipped and knocked on his door. In a moment, it swung open, as the burly man stood already dressed in formal black pants, a white button up and boots. His face also appeared to have been cleanly shaven, and his hair pomaded.
"Good morning your majesty." He smiled kindly. "I was woken up early and told I'd need to be going on a walk with you soon before your big birthday breakfast."
"But- But I'm just wearing my pajamas. I can't go out like this, give me some time to change. I didn't expect you to be all nice and dressed all fancy." Frieda began as she ran down to her bedroom.
"All right then, I'll be waiting. Don't take too long!" Reiner chuckled, as he went back into his room to grab a trench coat. After some waiting, Frieda came back to him with a white dress with a blue ribbon around it, and a hat with similar blue accents. "You look quite nice." He smiled, took her hand, and walked down the castle hallways. Frieda went on spouting nonsense until they were outside, while Reiner quietly nodded his head in agreement with whatever she was saying. They were escorted by MPs who followed behind them as they walked around the palace's public gardens. Both Reiner and Frieda were high profile targets, so that kind of protection was needed.
"Reiner, when is my party starting? Do you know who's coming?" Frieda began, squeezing his hand.
"Well, let's see... your mother and father will be there. You remember Jean and Pieck right? Their little baby Marco and Connie's little baby Sasha will also be there. Mikasa, Annie, and Armin will all be there. Levi, Gabi, Falco, you have me, and I think that's about it." He responded, looking at the scenery.
"Well those are all babies and adults! None of my friends will be there. I have to wait until the summer to see all of them according to mommy." She pouted in response.
"Well, Frieda, okay I wasn't supposed to say anything... but..." Reiner began.
"But, what!?"
"I heard that your mother actually invited the entire orphanage, and it was going to be a surprise! But don't tell anyone I told you, and make sure that you act like you're surprised when you see all of them again." Reiner smiled, kneeling down to whisper quietly so the MPs wouldn't hear them.
