April Joy

My metal plate rises to the surface, and then I finally look down at it. It is decorated to look like Easter, with light spring colours and Easter eggs on it. I finally look up, and the first thing I see is snow. A white, blank sheet of snow. Now I realized how cold it was.

In the middle of the cornucopia is a forty foot Christmas tree, with 28 large golden lights gleaming in a spiral around it, and the last light is a star at the top. Under the branches of the Christmas tree are little gifts, directly across from the tributes. I squinted my eyes, and then I saw that there are names tagged on each little gift.

A small, indigo gift has careful printing on it to spell ‘April’. “Welcome, welcome!” Vinella, our Gamemakers says from a screen. There is an icy blue drink in her hand, and some kind of sausage on a stick in the other. “I welcome you into my arena... I made it just for you!” She giggles. She’s kinda creepy.  “You will find many... gifts in this arena.” She then rambles on about the arena. I smiled. Today will be such a fun day. I’ll have fun.

“Underneath the tree you’ll find presents... These presents only open by your hand and contain what you have deserved... Good luck tributes, and may the odds be Ever in your favour.” She whispers, popping the sausage into her mouth. The screen fades to black, and then a golden timer replaces it. The timer then started.

I smiled brightly at everyone, and then I looked at the timer. 16 seconds left. Okay, April. Think of a plan. What’s my plan, what’s my plan... Oh! I know, I’ll grab my gift, throw my explosives, and then run away! That’s a great plan. I’ll do that.

I look at the others. Some are smug, and some are fearful of what awaits them. I looked up at the timer. 8 seconds. Now, there’s just 7 seconds to my possible doom. I narrowed my eyes, and then got in a ready position, ready to sprint over to my gift. It was so close, but so far away at the same time.  I clenched my hands.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

I sprinted as hard as I could as if my life depended on it. It did. So I ran faster. My eyes were set on the indigo gift, as if it were my only source of living. So close.

I reached the gift, and my nimble fingers went quickly at work to undo the wrapping. I saw an arrow whizzing right at me. It landed right next to me, on the cold ground. I furrowed my eyebrows, and looked at the arrow that just landed beside me. I picked it up and threw it at the person who threw it.

It hit Eve Ween straight in the gut, and I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t last much longer. Blood was starting to come from the spot where I had hit her. I looked at her, and then her body fell to the floor limp, just like a rag doll.

I narrowed my eyes, and ignored the killing that was going on behind me. Hmm, what else was in here? I smiled in content when I found an empty water bottle, a sleeping bag, and two fist sized loaves of bread, and of course my grenades. But there were only 3 of them. I pouted. Not enough. But I can’t wait to use them!

I took the explosives carefully out of the box and closed the lid, with my arm wrapped around the box and then I ran. The first person I saw was a girl running away from the cornucopia area with her supplies.

It was Jemma Fools, a girl from the April Fools district. I heard that she was tough. Oh well. I threw the Easter egg explosive at her, as hard as I could. It hit her in the head, and she whipped her head around quickly to see who threw it. I creepily smiled at her, and she looked at me confused.

In less than 2 seconds, a loud explosion surrounded her, and she exploded into bits. A loud scream was heard, and then the explosion faded away, with her mangled up body on the floor. The grenades had a smaller explosion than I thought they would have.

I saw a girl fleeing from the scene, but she wouldn’t be for long. I smirked, and then laughed evilly. I chased her, running as fast as I could. Her long red hair was swinging by her sides, and she had some sort of dagger in her hand. I didn’t want to use my grenades this time, so I quickly strapped the 2 leftover grenades in my belt.

Getting closer, I recognized that the girl was Rose, some girl from the Valentine’s District. My eyes darted to the floor, looking for a weapon. A knife, sitting on the floor. Perfect.

I swooped it up from the ground, and then I ran faster towards Rose. I was gaining on her. I sprinted at the last second, and then I jumped. I stabbed her, right in the back. I kept on stabbing, and stabbing. Her eyes widened, and then her body fell limp to the ground, covered in snow.

I looked at the body, dazed. I didn’t realize that someone was coming towards me. Make that, running. With a machete in his hand. It was Rudolph Snow. I widened my eyes, and grabbed my gift with my supplies in it. I fumble with my belt, before getting out an explosive.

I look back; throw the grenade as hard as I could, and then the last thing I saw at the cornucopia was a small explosion before I ran away.

 Bunny Von Unatalia

Bunny ran in the middle of the pack. Cupid Valentine and Mary Christmas were in a scuffle, but another tribute bashed their heads in. Bunny flinched but kept going and took two presents without names on them and one with her name on it.

Bunny immediately fled to the pine tree forest. A tribute had already spotted her and tried to attack her. Bunny unwrapped the present that specifically had her name on it. She grabbed the whip and flicked her wrist. That’s when Bunny noticed that it was Hailey Hollow, but the whip had already tore up Hailey’s neck. Bunny’s eyes flicked at the light on the tree that had flickered off. She kept running and climbed up a tree. She heard two voices coming near her. Bunny emptied the contents and put in packed snow from the tree. Bunny threw a box at the voices.

“NO! ROSE!” A voice screamed.

A marble was thrown in Bunny’s direction. Bunny snapped her bloody whip over at the marble thrower. Bunny realized it was Eve Ween. Two lights on the tree went off.
