Alex Q Ate

“What’s the worst it can do? Eat me?!”
I say peering at the giant squirrel behind a tree. “Getting eating is bad. Buttons is angry.” Rudolf says worriedly. I whip around and hiss at him “I don’t think you have seen angry.”
He glances cautiously at Clover who yells as she hacks away blindly at a squirrel corpse.
“Don’t hurt his baby!” Rudolf flies at her swiping the carcass out of her grasp. My eyes follow uneasily as it flies into the opening of field.
Buttons whips his head around and begins running towards the dead squirrel.
“You idiots”
“I did noting”
Clover and I both snap our heads towards Rudolf who seems to shrink under our glare.
Buttons is sniffing his new company. He belts out a low grumble of despair, clawing at the ground. It happened quickly, an abrupt snap of teeth and Button’s little friend is in his stomach.
“That is just wrong.”
I start to walk up, past the line of brush and into the prairie. “Im gonna give him a piece of my mind!” As I get closer i realizes the size of the beast. Every clump of fur is like a regular squirrel in itself. Not to mention the razor sharp fangs which truly did add too the enjoyment.
“Sir! Do you know that is called cannibalism and happens to be illegal in five out of six districts?
Buttons reared up then let out a booming roar, spittle flies into my face and his breath catches my hair blowing it back into the warm air.
I run.
“What did it say!” Rudolf squeals as I catch up to him and Clover as they scramble away.
“That we should run!”
The boy looks at me in wonder and amazement “Wow...you speak Buttonlish.”
Clover scowls as we fly into a full speed sprint leaping over lopsided branches or knolls, once I even jumped over Shadow who was lying there dead, well...he may have been alive...once...and pushed over by Clover, but thats beside the point.
Later Snowflake came out standing watching Buttons with a wry smile, “This is even more strange then usual, it’s so random some-”. By then she was eaten.
We came up to an opening and in the distance we could see March struggling up ahead for meaningly no reason As our staminas faltered Buttons caught our tails and we dove over to the forest side. Buttons continues walking over to March and as he get there he begins squirming and falls onto the poor boy.
Thats when I see Valen. “You killed him with your ugliness!” I shout running at him. He whips around in shock and disgust. He pulls out his bow and starts to ready his arrow.
“If you do that, i’ll shoot you.” I stutter holding out my hand warily as my wrist jitters uncontrollably and dryness envelops my tongue as I try to swallow.
Valen snorts, momentarily caught off guard then redirects his attention to his bow. “It really is such a pity to kill someone who is so stupid.”
I glance over to Rudolf who is still sheepishly hidden in the tree but the twang of a bow alerts me that Valen didn’t trust me. The blare coming from my fingers reverberate in my ears as I fall to the ground, heart pounding.
“It really is such a pity to kill someone who is so stupid.”
