Adira and Bucky walked into the building and saw Steve standing by himself sadly as he stood infront of a picture of army men where a hole had been cut so whoever was standing in front could see their face where the soldiers face was meant to be, however, Steve was too short and could only see his eyes and above.
Bucky pat him on the back "come on youre kinda missing the point of spending my last night here having fun. I'm taking Addy dancing, come tag along i'm sure she' gladly save you a dance. I know I will" Bucky said and then wiggled his eyebrows playfully at his friend
"you two go ahead, i will catch up with you" Steve muttered out to them but Adira and Bucky already knew why he wanted to stay behind and Adira nodded her head and then stood next to Steve and put her hand on his shoulder"
"lets do this" she says to him and he grins over at her and nods his head
"are the two of you really going to do this again?" Bucky asked them with a sigh. He knew they would both do great in the army and he really wanted it for them because he knew how much they wanted it, but he hated seeing the disappointment on their faces everytime that they were turned down, and more than that, he didnt want anything bad to happen to them
"Well its fair, we are going to try our luck" Steve said to Bucky
"As who Steve and Adira from Ohio?" Bucky spat, getting worried about the two "they will catch you or worse they will take you" Bucky said to them but neither of them backed down, they wanted this.
"Look I know you dont think I can do this" Steve muttered out but Bucky cut him off angrily. hed rather die before letting anything happen to Adira or Steve
"this isnt a back alley, Steve. It's War" Bucky spat out
"I know its a war.."
"why are the two of you so keen to fight? There are so many important jobs" Bucky tried to reason
"what do you want me to do? collect scrap metal in my little red wagon?" Steve argued back
"yes" Bucky fired "why not"
"im not going to sit in a factory Bucky and Adira isnt a sit at home and cook and clean girl, we both know she cant cook if her life depended on it. Bucky come on"
"there are men laying down their lives" Adira spat out "I have got no right to do any less than them. They wont let me go out there because im a woman. I should be allowed to choose whether I go out there or not. I want to help. I want to protect my country"
"Thats what you dont understand" Steve said to Bucky, backing Adira up "thats what you dont understand"
"right, because the two of you have nothing to prove?" Bucky asks them sarcastically and Adira scoffs and rolls her eyes at him but she knew he was right.
"Look Bee, we will be out there soon, just let us do this okay" Adira pleaded with him and Bucky let out a small sigh knowing that they werent going to give up and he nodded his head and he gave her a small kiss on the head
"I love you, dont be too long" he muttered to her and she nodded her head and then Bucky turned to look at Adira "dont do anything stupid until I get back" he muttered and went to walk off but Steve wanted to have the last word
"How can I? Youre taking all the stupid with you" Steve said and bucky walked up to him and then pulled him in for a hug
"youre a punk" Bucky muttered
"jerk" Steve replied and Adira grinned at their stupidity "be careful. Dont win the war until we get there"
Steve and Adira sat together while the man read over the notes but then a nurse came in an whispered something in his ear and the two of them began to walk out "is there a problem?" Steve asked in worry, hoping that they werent going to get taken away because someone had found out they lied in their forms
"just stay here" the man said as he walked out
"Shit lets get out of here" Adira muttered and Steve nodded and then two of them quickly went to pull on their shoes but then a man walked into the room with a smile on his face
"so. the two of you want to go overseas and kill some Nazis" the man said as he read over the two forms in his hand
"excuse me?" Steve and Adira asked as they looked up at the man in shock
"Im Dr Abraham Erskine. I represent the strategic scientific reserve" the man said and shook both Adira and Steves hand
"steve rogers" Steve introduced himself
"Nice to meet you, im Adira Argent" Adira said and gave the man a small, unsure smile
"where are you from?" Steve asks, trying to be poliet and spark up a conversation
"Queens. 73rd Street and Utopia Parkway" Erskine said
"no way, im from Qu..." Adira stopped herself and mentally cursed herself, she was such an idiot but Erskine gave her a knowing smile that told her that he had already knew that
"Before that, I was from Germany" Erskine said and this had seemed to catch the attention of Adira and Steve which Erskine noticed immedietly "does this trouble you Miss Argent and Mr Rogers"
"no of course not" they both replied
"So where are the two of you from, well i guess we know about you" Erskine said with a smirk as he looked at the girl and then he turned to look at Steve "what about you, is it new Haven, or Parmus. Both of you have put five exams in five different countries"
"that might not be the right file" Steve quickly choked out, scared that the two of them were about to get into a lot of trouble
"no its not the exams that i am interested in. Its the five tries" Erskine spoke up "but you didnt answer my question. Do the two of you want to kill Nazis?" Neither of them knew what to say, they shared a look with each other and then turned back to look at the man
"is this a test?" Adira asks in confusion
"yes" Erskine responded honestly, waiting to see what their answers were going to be, after all, he had been keeping a close eye on the two of them for a while, they had particullly peaked his interest and he made it his goal to find out as much as he could about them, and this was going to be the deciding factor
"I dont want to kill anyone. I dont care where they are from" Steve commented
"I dont want to kill anyone, i just want to protect the people I care about" Adira responded and the doctor nodded his head, happy with the answers they had given
"well there are already so many big men fighting this war. Maybe what we need now is a little guy huh? and a small girl with a big spirit and one of the hardest punches i've seen" he said and Adira looked at the man in confusion
"I've heard about a few of your incidents and i must say, i am quite impressed" the man said with a smile before she could say anything and she decided it was probably best to keep quiet for the moment so she just nodded her head "i can offer the two of you a chance" and he slid open the curtain getting ready to leave "only a chance"
"We will take it" Steve said and the two rushed after the man
"yes, thank you that would be great" Adira said excitedly, she couldnt believe this was actually happening
"good" Erskine replied "so where is the little guy from, actually?" Erskine asked
"Brooklyn" Steve replied
"wait... how come you knew i was from Queens?" Adira asked in confusion, her eyebrows furrowed
"You have built up quite the reputation for yourself, even if you didnt know it" Erskine replied with a smile and then signed the papers and handed them both their sheets "congradulations, soldiers"
They stared at the papers for a moment, neither of them saying anything and then they grinned up at each other and Adira through her arms around Steves shoulders excitedly and he hugged her back "we did it"
