Lost - Bucky Barnes

Chapter 8

Months passed and it was clear that being away from Bucky had taken a toll on Adira, she had dark circles under her eyes. But she wasa able to convince everyone that she was just tired from all of the missions that her and Steve had been on. The two of them were known by almost everyone in america. Captain America and Valkyrie, the best two heroes america has ever seen. Kirra constantly played with the ring that Bucky had given to her, telling herself that she was going to see him soon, but as soon as the new news had come in, she felt her heart stop.

Buckys crew had been attacked and there were hardly any survivors, so here she and steve were in front of the Coronel with pleading looks on their faces. "well if it isnt the star-spangles man with a plan and the girl with crazy good aim. What is your plan today?" Coronel asked them both, not actually really caring.

"we need the casualty list from Assano" Steve ordered and Adira nodded her head from beside him, her eyes were bloodshot as she stared at the man, trying to hold in her tears as she thought about the fact that Bucky is more than likely dead and she will never get to see him again

"you dont get to give me orders, son." Coronel growled as he looked up at steve.

"we just need one name, Sergeant James Barnes from the 107th" Adira spoke up, her voice was desperate as she looked at the older man, he had never seen her like this. She was mentally the strongest one in his camp but if someone were to look at her now, they would easily tell the man that he was clearly mistaken 

"you and i are going to have a conversation later that you wont enjoy" Coronel said to Peggy Carter as he pointed his finger threateningly at her

"please just tell us if he is alive sir. B A R..." Adira cut the man off

"I can spell" Coronel snapped and then he stood up and began sorting through papers "i have signed more of these condolence letters today than i would care to count. But the name does sound familiar. Im Sorry."

Adira felt like the world was crushing in around her. She struggled to breath as if her lungs had inhaled toxic air. She didnt move and nothing left her lips, It wasnt possible, Bucky promised her that they would see each other again. He promised her, and he never broke his promises. A single tear slipped down her face

"what about the others? are you planning a rescue mission?" Steve quickly stuttered out, in just as much shock as the girl, but not as sad. The girl felt like her heart had been ripped out of her chest, shoved back in there and then ripped out again. He was her home, she knew there was nobody else out there for her and now she had lost him.

"yeah its called winning the war" Coronal replied sarcastically and Adira felt a sudden urge to strangle the man and then drop kick him as hard as she could

"but if you know where they are then why dont you at lea-" Steve started but was cut off by the Coronel once again

"they are 30 miles behind the lines. Through some of the most heavily fortified places in Europe, we would lose more men than we would save" The coronel replies "but i dont expect you to understand that because you are a chorus girl" he fired at steve

"I think i understand it just fine" Steve says firmly as he glares at the man "

"well then understand it somewhere else" Coronel fires back "if i read the posters correctly then you have got some place to be in the next 30 minutes" and then storms out of the tent away from them. Adira still hadnt moved but she turned to look at her best friend and as they looked at each other, they knew that they were thinking the exact same thing.

"yes sir, i do" Steve replies and then he and Adira both storm out of the tent and go to their own tents where they quickly begin to shove their stuff in their bags and suit up ready for the mission ahead of them.
