3rd Person P.O.V.
"Wake up child! Suffering Circe, I've called you five times! Have you sand in your ears this morning?"
Perseus "Percy" Jackson, son of Poseidon, God of the Seas woke up with a gasp. His raven black hair floated wildly around his face. His sea green eyes were fearful. That thing in the cage-he could still hear the gurgling laughter, its horrible screams. He could feel its cunning and its rage. He looked around, his heart pounding, certain it was here with him but he soon saw that no monster was in his room.
Only his mother who was every bit of terrifying.
"Lolling in bed today of all days! The Domkimi is tonight and you've got so much to do!"
La Serenissima Regina Atlanna, former ruler of Atlantis was swimming from widow to window, throwing open the draperies.
Sunlight filtered through the glass panes from the waters above, waking the feathery tube worms clustered around the rooms. They burst into bloom, dubbing the walls yellow, colbat blue, and magenta. The golden rays warmed fronds of seaweed anchored to the floor. They shimmered in the glass of a tall gilt mirror and glinted off the polished coral walls. A small green octopus that had been curled up at the foot of the bed-Percy's pet Sylvester-darted away, disturbed by the light.
"Can't you cast a song spell for that Mom?" Percy asked, his voice raspy with sleep "Or ask Tavia to do it?"
"I sent Tavia to fetch your breakfast" Atlanna said, "And no, I can't cast a songspell to open draperies. As I've told you a million times-"
"Never waste magic on the mundane" Percy said as if it were rehearsed.
"Exactly. Do get up Perseus. The emperor and empress have arrived. Your Lords and Ladies are waiting for you in your antechamber, the cantus magnus is coming to rehearse your songspell, and here you lie as idle as a sponge" Atlanna said. She batted a school of purple wrasses away from a window and looked out from it. "The sea is so calm today, I can see the sky. Lets hope your father doesn't cause a storm to churn up the waters"
"Mom what are you doing here? Don't you have a realm to rule?" Percy asked, certain that his mother had not come here to comment on the weather.
"Not any more thank you very much" Atlanna said tartly "Atlantis is in the hands of your brother, but I will be taking over for the day" She crossed the room to Percy's bedside, her grey sea-silk gown swirling behind her leaving behind a trail of gleaming silver, her thick blond hair piled high on her head.
"Just look at all these conches!" she exclaimed frowning at the pile of white shells on the floor by Percy's bed, "You stayed up late last night listening didn't you?"
"I had to" her son said defensively "My term on Atlan's Progress is due next week"
"No wonder I can't get you out of bed" Atlanna sniffed. She picked up one of the shells and held it to her ear, "The Atlantean Conquest of the Barrens of Thira by Professor Giovanni Bolla" she said, then tossed it aside. "I hope you didn't waste too much time on that one. Bolla's an old fool. An armchair commander. He claims that the Trench were contained by threats of sanction. Total bilge. The Trench are cannibals, and cannibals care nothing for decrees. Atlan once sent a messenger to tell them they were being sanctioned, and they ate him"
Percy groaned, "Is that why you're here? Isn't it a little too early in the day for a lecture on politics"
"It's never to early for politics" Atlanna said "It was encirclement by Atlantean Soldiers, the acqua guerrieri, that bested the Trench. Forced them straight to the Marianas Trench. Force not diplomacy. Remember that Perseus. Never sit down at the table negotiating with cannibals, lest you find yourself on the menu"
