"Y/N?"

I greeted the girl in front of me with a bow, A smile grew on her face as she bowed as well. Her smile immediately changed as if something had clicked in her head.

"Are you here  to ask about the picture on my story? I'll take it down if you have any concerns!-"

"Yeji! Calm down, It's fine. I was invited to dinner." I explained, calming down the red haired girl.

"Y/N! You made it!"

Hyunjin's mother came up behind Yeji and greeted me with a hug. Surprised, I hugged her back before pulling away and bowing to show my respects.

"The food is still being prepared so you can wait around for a bit. Hyunjin is taking a nap, you can go wake him if you like." Mrs. Hwang offered. I declined and decided to hang out with Yeji outside until the meal was prepared.

~

"So you live here as well?" I asked, sitting down next to Yeji on the patio.

"Yeah, one day my mother dropped me off here for a playdate with Hyunjin and never came back." Yeji explained, looking down. I stayed silent, hesitant of what to reply with.

"That was a joke by the way," Yeji assured with a small giggle. I laughed a bit with her playing off the confusion.

"I was actually brought in as a child. My parents don't live here anymore but I wanted to stay so I moved in with Hyunjin's family" I nodded in understanding.

"So how long have you and Hyunjin been in a relationship?" Yeji asked with an excited glow in her eyes.

Shoot

We're definitely going to get caught now

It's the end of the tunnel I suppose

Hyunjin what have you gotten me into?

"Well actually-" I started.

"Girls! Dinner has been prepared!" Hyunjin's mother called out.

I let out a sigh of relief, shrugging off Yeji's confused glance.

We got up and headed inside together while Hyunjin's mother went to call Hyunjin. I sat down at an empty seat and noticed Mr. Hwang coming from the living room. I bowed a little before turning my head back around and talking to Yeji.

"Hyunjin! Hurry up and come to dinner!" Mrs. Hwang yelled from the bottom of the staircase.

Mrs. Hwang came and sat down with us as a butler started handing out plates of food. The food looked high quality, something you'd see at Gordon Ramsay's restaurant. I was engaging in small talk with the other 2 women until a tall figure emerged from the staircase. A brunette boy wearing sweatpants and a hoodie stared at us with a bored expression that I know way too well. He looked far different from the fashionable clothing or suits I was used to seeing him in. Hyunjin's eyes widened as we made eye contact, I instantly changed my gaze when I noticed Hyunjin point at me. He started walking over to the table, still pointing me, wide eyed.

"Kim Y/N."

I looked up and waved.

"Hyunjin! I'm sure I've taught you better than dressing like that in front of guests!" Mrs. Hwang lectured.

Hyunjin backed away, still staring at me. He finally turned around when he tripped on the staircase.

"How'd you get him so whipped?" Yeji whispered.

~

A couple minutes later, Hyunjin finally came and sat down at the table. We were about to start eating until Mrs. Hwang forced Hyunjin out of his seat next to Yeji and instead made him sit next to me. Once that was sorted we finally started to eat.

"So when did you guys start dating?" Mrs. Hwang asked after whispering back and forth with Yeji.

I made eye contact with Hyunjin before turning back to my plate. Hyunjin cleared his throat and answered. "A month." Hyunjin said blankly.

A MONTH?

I kicked Hyunjin under the table, he slightly jumped out of his chair, covering it up with a cough.

"Are you planning on getting married?" Yeji asked, making me choke on my water a bit while Hyunjin looked away.

"I think we've agreed to keep it slow for now." I declared.

"Good. My son will not be marrying you anyway." Mr. Hwang announced after staying silent the entire time.

Mrs. Hwang scolded her husband while Yeji stared at me with a soft, apologetic gaze. I looked down, feeling the tension between the family build up.

"That's not your decision!" Mrs. Hwang argued with her husband.

"Yes it is. I will not allow my son to marry a charity case!" Hyunjin's father insulted.

I could feel the tears form in my eyes as I held my head down to avoid meeting eyes with anyone. Hyunjin's chair dragged across the floor as he got up aggressively, hitting the table in frustration. I flinched as a loud thud made the table shake and through my teary eyes I could see Hyunjin's eyes darting at his father with rage.

"You're a pathetic excuse of a father." Hyunjin fumed, leaving everyone speechless. The boy grabbed my hand and dragged me with him up the stairs and into his room.

~

He shut the door and laid his back against it with a frustrated sigh. I refrained from looking around the room and continued to stare at my feet.

Suddenly my shoes are the most interesting thing in this room.

A pair of arms wrapped around my body. I let my tears fall while I silently listened to Hyunjin's heartbeat. His head rest on mine as we stood in silence in the middle of his room.

"You aren't a charity case." Hyunjin assured.

"Well shit, I feel like one now."

"Well you aren't." Hyunjin repeated.

I pulled away from the hug and took a breath, Hyunjin wiped my tears away with a soft smile.

"I'm going to take a shower, want to join?" Hyunjin wiggled his eyebrows.

I scoffed, "In your dreams."

"Oh darling, We do much more fun things in my dreams." Hyunjin winked before walking into his bathroom.

~

It's been about 10 minutes by now. Hyunjin was still in the shower and I was ranting to the gossip group. I sighed of boredom and got up from Hyunjin's bed, exploring the room. His bedside table drawer was slightly open and although I knew better than snooping around something in me told me to open the drawer fully. In the drawer was an upside down picture frame, I picked it up and turned it, looking over the picture. There were 4 people in the picture. A woman with a kind smile who stood next to a man with a blank and serious face. 2 children sat in front of them, one had the biggest smile while the other looked disgusted with the situation. I realized that the kids were Yeji and Hyunjin.

Well they clearly haven't changed.

I put the frame back and closed the drawer before walking over to the messy desk filled with different drawings. I admired the art until a door creek was heard and a tall brunette walked out of the bathroom.

This happens too often.
