By the next Friday, I had spent most of my time with Paige and Nick, but now that it was Friday, I was determined to do something a bit more interesting.
Kenzie walked into my room as I was choosing my outfit. "Get out." I said sharply. "No." She replied smirking. I rolled my eyes and rummaged through the rest of my clothes. "Why don't you where something cute today Mads?" Asked my pesky sister. She held up an extremely tight and low cut blouse. Laying on the bed next to her was a black pencil skirt. "I'm just going to school, not applying for the cover of playboy magazine." I responded in an obviously annoyed tone.
"Chloe Lukasiak is having a party tonight, you could wear it there."
"Oh no way am I going to that party."
"She invited me, I'm guessing that's a free ticket for you or you can just party crash." My sister snickered.
"Mom will never let you go."
"She might let you though."
I rolled my eyes once more picking out an unbuttoned flannel and skinny jeans.
School seemed awfully loud that day. Walking in was already noisy. I didn't bug me all that much until Chloe walked in, with none other than Josh Hyland at her side. Wait, hold up. This is not happening. I hurried to find Paige. "Paige! How could you not tell me?" I asked. "I didn't know about it. He hasn't talked to me all week." She replied.
At lunch I sat at my usual table. After I finished eating, I was going to walk around for a bit. When I passed Josh's table he winked at me and shouted "Hey Ziegler." Now that just put me off the edge. I knew exactly how to handle this. I turned towards him and batted my eyelashes. He smirked. I walked closer to him and said "I hope you aren't hungry today..." As I finished my sentence I grabbed the bowl of mashed potatoes off his tray and shoved them in his face. Just to top off the dramatic effects, I ran my finger down his potato covered face and winked. His expression dropped and everyone's eyes met his face. The cries of laughter felt like applause on my part. Good work Maddie.
I walked home proud today. In fact, I was going to crash Chloe's party. I rushed straight up to Kenzie's room and said "We have a party to get ready for." She squealed in excitement and shoved the outfit from this morning into my arms. "Actually, I was thinking about that little red dress mom got me this summer?" I suggested. "Perfect." She replied.
Within an hour, my sister had transformed me into a super model. My hair was curled in giant waves that fell perfectly on my red polka dotted skater dress. I was wearing shiny black heels and a Michael Kors purse. My makeup was done with a steady hand and accented my outfit perfectly. "Thank you so much Kenz." I said hugging my sister. Paige and Brooke were picking me up in a half hour, without Josh.
Once they arrived, I got into their car immediately, avoiding the cold. "Hey Mads!" Said Paige as Brooke smiled my way. "Hey! Excited?" I replied.
"Not really, we'll probably spend our entire time looking out for Josh."
"I'd help, but things are kind of awkward between Josh and I right now."
"We understand, everyone saw what happened at lunch."
We all laughed as Brooke turned the music up.
Chloe's house was giant, it'd make mine look like an ant hill. There were people lining up at the door to get in. Once we got in line, Paige and Brooke immediately got in. I had to wait. As my turn came, I showed them the invite Kenzie had given me. Surprisingly, I was let in.
There was a room to the left where all of Chloe's living room furniture had been pushed. I set my coat on a chair in the room. Here goes nothing. I walked into the the crowd of people whispering about my little act at lunch. I smiled as I caught a shocked scowl from Chloe across the room. Josh also saw me, but avoided eye contact. Jake was no where near Josh.
Jake had made his way towards me as soon as he saw me. "Hey Jake." I said. "Hello Maddie." He said smirking while running his hand down my arm. I quickly pulled away. "What's your problem?" He asked. I looked at my feet and said "I'm not interested." He held my face with his palms and leaned in to kiss me. I stepped back and said "Stop."
I wanted to cry. This isn't what I anticipated. I only wanted to be with Josh, nobody else. As much as I didn't want to admit it, I liked him, a lot.
I walked out of the room and into the bathroom down the hall. I started tearing up, and that quickly turned into a loud cry.
After a little bit, I started to hear loud screams followed by police sirens. I stepped out of the bathroom and asked Nia Sioux what was going on. "It's Josh..." She responded. A look of shock crossed my face. "Chloe! Chloe! Josh is gone. Nobody can find him, and there is blood all over the dining room." Said a crying voice from behind me. It was Paige. "Paige! It's okay, they'll find him." I replied trying to comfort her. She just started to cry.
