Friday rolled around quicker than I thought it would. Today, I wanted to look like I put an effort into my appearance, so I got up early to straighten my hair and I picked a pair of tight high waisted jeans and a Brandy Melville crop top. I also wore my red Vans.
When I got to school that morning Chloe was in her usual spot scolding Paige for something she probably didn't do. I noticed something was different, Paige was on the verge of tears. I walked up to her and said "Are you okay?" After Chloe left to go see Josh. Paige just shook her head no. I pulled her into a hug and then the bell rang. "I'll talk to you first period."
In first period I asked her about it, but she didn't want to tell me. Then she went on about how we were going to Evan Frazier's house at seven for a bonfire and he promised not to invite Chloe. Paige must be mad at her.
The school day flew by almost as quick as the week did. Before I knew it I was walking to the Hyland's with Paige and Josh. I never noticed how quiet Josh really was. He would always party with Chloe nonstop.
When we got to their house I set my backpack in the kitchen and walked to Paige's room with her. Josh's room was across the hall from Paige's.
We decided to curl our hair before the bonfire. "Can I curl yours?" Asked Paige excitedly. "Only if I can curl yours!" I responded trying to go along with it. She pulled out a bright purple curling iron from the drawer in her dresser. Well there goes my straight hair. I could tell she was really good at curling hair. "So who are your other friends?" Paige asked. "Occasionally I hang out with Nia." I responded.
"That's it?"
"Yeah pretty much."
"Is there a special boy?" Paige Smirked.
"I haven't really thought about it to be honest."
"Oh come on! You're always staring at Zack Torres."
"Definitely not. Now what about your special boy?" I laughed.
"Nick Kelley all the way. Don't tell anyone though because I haven't told Chloe yet."
"Oh yeah, what's up with that? You and Chloe used to be super close."
"She takes me for granted, but I can't really back down now."
"That stinks, she shouldn't do that to you."
"That's just Chloe for you."By then, she was finished curling my hair and I curled hers. We had 15 minutes before we had to go, so Paige took her dog on a short walk. I couldn't go because her dog doesn't do well around new people.
I heard a guitar playing across the hall. Josh played guitar? I walked across the hall and stood beside his doorway listening to him play. He was playing "Good Life" by One Republic. I guess he did have a pretty good life, giant house, Chloe Lukasiak, stunning looks.
The last thing I'd want to happen then happened. He walked out of his room and saw me. I freaked out and said the first thing that came to mind "I'm sorry, I was just listening." Stupid, stupid, stupid I thought to myself. "It's fine, I'll play you something if you want."
"Really?"
"Yeah, anything you want."
"Play your favorite song."Josh started playing "Somebody to You" by The Vamps. I guess I did want to be somebody to him. What surprised me was that he started singing too. After he finished playing the song I said "I didn't know you sing." He responded with "Not in front of many people." He looked down at his guitar for a minute before Paige interrupted us.
"There you are!" She yelled. Paige pulled me out of the room and we walked downstairs. "Josh! It's time to go!" Paige screamed loudly. He immediately came running down the stairs. I never noticed how attractive he was. His caramel hair was pushed back and his bright blue eyes pulled the entire look together. He deserves better than Chloe Lukasiak.
We loaded into the car that was driven by Josh. He just got his license last month though. Paige and me talked about shoe brands the entire way there. I'd occasionally catch Josh rolling his eyes.
It only took about five minutes to get there. I saw a few familiar faces at around the fire, none of which belonged to Chloe. Josh took a seat next to his best friend, Jake Walton. People called him Little Niall because he looked exactly like Niall Horan, but younger. Paige and myself sat on a different bench. We basically talked and roasted marshmallows the entire time. Nick Kelley showed up at the very end of the bonfire. He was looking for a seat, so I pretended to use the restroom and left the seat for him. I sent a wink at Paige.
When we got in the car to leave she said "Thank you so much!" I said "No problem. How did it go?" Paige smiled and said "Absolutely amazing." I rolled my eyes teasingly and laughed.
Once we got back to Paige's we changed into our pajamas and turned on Grown Ups in the living room. We had probably 50 blankets and pillows to crash on. Josh actually came down to watch with us. Paige crashed within 20 minutes leaving just Josh and I. "So how long have you played guitar." I asked. "A few years. My older sister, Brooke, taught me." He responded. "Have you ever sang for Chloe?" I asked teasingly. After a long pause he said "No, I haven't. She can barely look up from her phone long enough to listen." We both laughed and within ten minutes we were both asleep.
