"You do realize that I'm sitting right here right?" Sebastian jokes from the couch. I roll my eyes and continue listening to Kayla talking about something Mackie did that ended up with a broken chair. I made a comment that Sebastian would have probably only made it worse if he had gone over to help. Kayla agreed and continued on her rant.
"Well, I'm just glad no one got hurt." I tell her, a hint of humor in my voice.
"Me too. Next time her starts rough housing with the boys, I'm kicking his ass outside in the yard." Kayla sighs and I laugh.
"That would probably be a good idea." I agree.
I hear Kayla yelling for Mackie to stop wrestling the boys before she tells me she has to go. We hang up and I can't stop the laughter that escapes me. Mackie never fails to get the boys all kinds of wound up when they're at the house. Kayla loves having everyone there together, but sometimes the broken furniture gets to be a little too much. Maybe she won't have to put Mackie in time out for too long.
"Seb, go ask Aurelia what she wants for lunch, please." I tell the man sitting on the couch, reading through a script he had been sent.
"Aurelia!" He yells and I roll my eyes.
We had picked up Aurelia from Sebastian's mom's house the day after Sebastian had come to Mackie and Kayla's to get me. It had been 4 months since then. Everything had seemed to blow over as far as the drama with Alexia goes. Her confession on air had really turned a lot of the heat towards her and away from me. I was thankful for it.
"Daddy, I'm in the middle of a very important tea party." Aurelia huffs as she walks to the couch with her hands on her hips.
"Well, your mom is the one that actually interrupted. I'm just the messenger." He says, pointing toward me in the kitchen. Aurelia's head whips in my direction and she glares at me.
I give her my "try me little girl" look and she slowly drops her hands from her hips and loses the glare.
"Yes, momma?" Sebastian looks between her and I as if he can't believe the power that I hold over this little girl with a single look.
"What would you like for lunch?" I ask sweetly, as if I didn't just give my child a death glare.
Mom of the year award.
"Peanut butter and jelly sandwich please!" She smiles up at me and I nod before she runs back to her room.
I start getting her lunch ready as Sebastian joins me in the kitchen. I notice him carefully approaching me and look up at him.
"What?" I ask, laughing at the way he is cautiously getting closer to me.
"How did you do that?" He asks.
"Do what?" I smile as he takes my face in his hands and he scans his eyes all over me.
"How did you make her sass just evaporate like that? Was that black magic or something?" I burst into laughter at his words.
"No, you dork." I swat his hands away and he fakes being hurt. "I gave her the mom look."
"The mom look?" He questions.
"Yeah. The mom look. You know, like when you try to argue with your mom and she just gives you that look that makes you completely rethink everything you've ever said or done." I explain.
"Oh. That look. Yeah, that's terrifying, but you don't have a mom look." He says as he grabs an apple from the bowl, tossing it between his hands as he leans against the counter.
"I do have a mom look. It always works on Aurelia. "I laugh as I jokingly argue with him.
"No, not a chance." He sighs before taking a bite of the apple. I set my jaw and glare at him the same way I had glared at Aurelia. He turns to look at me as he chews his bite of apple.
