Halmoni invited me to dinner today so I made sure to cancel any unimportant meetings today to fit her schedule. For some reason halmoni's been asking me to come over but since I was busy the past two weeks I couldn't meet her so I planned to leave early today and help her around the house.

"Dong Chan-ah", I called out for him from my seat and once i caught his attention I continued, "I'm going to leave early today so make sure to send me the term sheet file to my email, I'll check it at home". With that I got up from my seat and headed towards the door.

"Ne", I heard from his direction. I smiled a little when I noticed the tired tone he seemed to have nowadays. I should probably give him a raise soon, I mentally noted to myself. With that I made my way to the parking lot and was on my way to halmoni's house.

Reaching Halmoni's house, I knocked twice on the door and there she was. She couldn't see me clearly so she had her head down but I knew she never changed from the person I met when I was a child.

"Sundung-i (good boy) is that you?", she called out opening the door.

"Halmoni, I told you not to open the door without checking who it is! What if it was not me?", I told her while gently coming inside removing my shoes.

"Aish, it must be you with all that nagging... Ya! I can hear your nagging all the way from the front gate so i knew it was you", She replied walking over to the dinning room.

"Ai Halmoni, Jinja!", I replied back. She had no problems moving around the house since Dal Mi-ssi blind proofed the whole house and made sure that none of the furnitures were moved around. Halmoni can still see big items but I guess they were too blurry to make out what they are.

After we made our way into the dinning room we sat down at the dinning table. "Did omonim go somewhere?", I asked after I sat down, looking around the house. Normally Dal Mi-ssi's mom was the one who opens the door, that's why I was curious.

"Oh ya she went to close the shop for today since we have the dinner today", Halmoni said. "But why are you here so early anyway?", she asked.

"To help!", I replied automatically, leaning back on my chair.

"As if anyone wouldn't think you're a good boy", Halmoni said with a scoff. I laughed and remembered that time when Dal Mi-ssi invited me to last years chuseok festival and she asked me to come help.

"Of course! If I just keep coming over and eating but not helping your granddaughter will scold me oh halmoni!", I joked and we both laughed after that. After that halmoni said that I can help by cutting the cucumbers. Since omonim was going to make the main dishes, halmoni and me were going to prepare the ingredients and side dishes since it was easy. Well as easy as a person who can't really cook professionally is.

After a while we heard the front door opening and closing and a voice can be heard. "Omonim, I'm back... OMONIM ARE YOU AT THE STOVE AGIAN..", I heard rushed footsteps to the kitchen and Dal Mi-ssi's mom tone raised in a worried manner. "Omonim! You might get bur-", she paused her movement and speech as she noticed my presence at the stove and halmoni just sitting at the dinning table. "Oh Han Directornim.... you scared me", she said in a state of shock. We all laughed at her antics while she calmed down and kept some stuff from the shop on the floor near the table.

I shifted my focus back towards the omelette that I was making I could still hear Dal Mi-ssi's mother lightly telling halmoni how sacred she was that she might've burned herself. After that, the flow of the conversation turned to include me as well.

"But Han Directornim I didn't expect you so early today.... and cooking", she pointed at my somewhat burned omelette with a laugh. I frowned at how my omelette turned out and let out a sigh, plating it instead. I really wanted to help but I think I should just stick to cutting vegetables.

"Yeah.... I wanted to help make the food this time but....as you can see I don't think I can master this just yet", I joked around and settled the finished omelette onto the table. With that we talked about a lot of things while Dal Mi-ssi's mother started cooking. I think her cooking skills have improved over the 4 years staying with halmoni. Halmoni never showed it but she was quite content with her presence, saying it made her feel less lonelier. Although halmoni said it in a way more savage manner. I mentally shocked when I remembered her saying 'what loneliness? Everyday is a melodrama with my daughter in law... waaa the amount of trouble she does keeps me up at night sometimes'. It was good though since if not for omonim, halmoni would've been sleeping all day and might've suffered from depression.

Dal Mi-ssi and Do San-ssi  apparently had dinner plans with Do San-ssi's family, so we had dinner between us three instead. To be honest, I felt conflicted when I heard that they were not going to be at dinner. I came early to help yes, but also to avoid running into Dal Mi-ssi for a while. But them not being here made me feel maybe it would've been better she was here, at least I could see her and talk about anything other than work.

Also I could've avoided this conversation.

"Who's the girl that dropped you off when you were drunk?", Halmoni suddenly asked while eating. I choked on my food and tried to stop my coughing before looking over at her in bewilderment.

"Ne?", I asked in confusion.

"I said, who's the gi-", she started to ask again.

"No halmoni.... i - i mean... ho-how do you know her?", I looked around to see omonim smiling while eating.

"She called to ask your address", omonim answered me, taking some omelette from the plate before asking again, "she was so sweet taking you home, we were curious who she was.... girlfriend", she asked with light in her eyes.

"Ooo is it? Sundung-i your all grown up now!', halmoni said loudly seeming happy.

My first answer was a hiccup.

"NO.... nonono nothing like that!", I stated before they got any more assumptions. "She's a colleagues that's all and she helped me when i was drunk that's it - but then why would you give just anyone my address oh halmoni!", I said trying to shift the focus to another thing.

"Ppfftt colleagues my ass, what kind of colleague would take it upon herself to drag your ass all the way to your house and inform me that you arrived safely and come here early in the morning the next day and ask Do San to tell me that you were alright oh?", she asked.

She did that?

I was lost in my thoughts on why Hara-ssi would do that but the ladies took my silence as an affirmation to their assumptions.

"Omo! Omonim it must've really must've been his girlfriend!", omonim started getting excited and halmoni had a teasing smile on her face.

"Noooo~ Omonim, Halmoni... it's really not like that I swear..... I'm not interested in a relationship right now so it really isn't like that... how to explain-", I wanted to make halmoni happy but not with lies. Not again. The first time i lied for her got me in this situation and I didn't really wanna lie about my relationship now.

"I'm back~ And what's this about a girlfriend?", a voice came from the entrance and I felt my body go rigid while I heard the person moved into the kitchen. "Oh Han Directornim? Ooo~ You got a girlfriend? Who?", she spoke so casually and sounded somewhat excited as she walked closer.

And again the answer came in the form of a hiccup.

What is with the women in this house and their assumptions really?
