I froze all over and stopped breathing. No. I wouldn't choose who was going to take my place. There was no way.

"Hurry up or I start killing people," she said and pointed the gun at Elisabeta. "Mother-in-law first."

She was quickly pulled behind one of the guards.

"It will go through two people."

"Vests," the guard said dismissively. I really hoped they were the best vests around because I had a feeling invented bio-weapons weren't the only thing up her sleeve.

The other guard edged closer to her. Good. That was good.

She shot him in the head.

I screamed and backed up a step almost knocking the doctor off balance. I tried to break away but she held me tightly, pressing down on my injured shoulder and eliciting another agonised scream from me.

"Choose!" she barked.

Tears were running down my face. A plan I needed a plan. I needed a plan and I needed it now. Wait. I'd thought Andy had one a moment ago. I looked over to him and begged him to help me. His body was no more tense than I would expect in a situation like this, but his eyes were burning. Screaming.

And I got it.

"Choose!" she yelled again.

"Andy!" I cried laying the tears on thick so that she didn't pickup on the plan. Everyone at home knew he was a marine. What were the odds that a Bulgarian spy knew too? I couldn't let her think anything other than I was a scared little girl doing as she was told. "Andy!"

The remaining guard yelled something that sounded pretty profane.

"Silence!" Nicoleta barked and shot the dead guard again and that did more to make me angry than when she shot him the first time. She'd already killed him what more did she need to do to him? "Good. Now, Your Majesty, walk over here backwards and slowly. Hands behind your head. Interlock your fingers."

He gave his gun to Elisabeta who wielded it like she'd been doing it her whole life. God I loved her. Then he did as he was told and walked backwards in a perfectly straight line towards us. Everyone was silent for the longest time as he slowly, oh so slowly walked towards us. Time seemed to stand still. I could hear Mircea's monitors slowly beeping but that was it.

"You'll be safe in a minute, Jemima," Andy said to me.

What?

"What? What is he saying?" my captor harshly asked.

"My nickname," I lied as my mind raced.

If it was a code word it was a terrible one. What the hell did Jemima have to do with any of this? I didn't know anyone called Jemima, I didn't know of any specific Jemima, at least, I didn't know of anyone real with that name and the only fictional character I knew of called Jemima was Jemima Puddle –

Duck! My mind screamed just as I saw his elbow begin to move really fast.

I ducked and stomped on her foot and elbowed her at the same time as he did and scrambled out of the way. The gun went of and lucky me it missed, but then it went off again and I fell to the floor, the bullet ripping through the outside of my leg.

"If I wasn't feeling shitty enough," I muttered but dragged myself away from the fight that was going on.

Somehow I got on my feet and limped through to Mircea's room and over to his bed. I ripped every single needle that was in his body from him not caring who put them in for now so long as nothing else was being put in him. The doctor could have tampered with anyone of the substances that was being pumped into him. All I knew was that I didn't trust any of the things that were hanging up on the pole and that I couldn't let Mircea die.
