"What do you think you're doing out of your room?" he asked sharply. It was the male doctor that had showed Waynard the test results. She opened her mouth but no answer came out, she was too scared.
She wouldn't have had time to answer anyway because he grabbed her swiftly by her upper arm and pulled her up from the seat, dragging her out of the room. She made small sounds of protest and resisted weakly as he pulled her down the hallway back to her room. Reaching the room he pushed her in and nudged her to the bed, "You'll stay here until you're better; you don't want to get any worse do you?"
She didn't know if that was a threat or a true concern, "N-no, I don't..."
He grunted in annoyance as he hooked her back up and replaced the needle, "I think it would be best if the door was kept locked in order not to tempt you."
The thought of being locked in scared her even more than just being there. She had completely ruined any chance of getting away, she just knew it. Now she felt even more like a prisoner. She didn't give a reply, she just watched as he walked toward the door, locked it, and shut it. She had been so close to finding something out. She actually sat up in bed this time instead of lying down, wrapping her arms around her legs. She wasn't tired at all, there was no way she'd be able to fall asleep now. Her eyes were tearing up, she felt so hopeless.
Unable to sleep, she sat there fidgeting and looking around the room obsessively, tears streaming every few moments. And she thought hard. Thought about what might have really happened and how she really got there. She felt her head; did she really smack it on something? Nothing hurt and there were no bumps. Was she a drug user? She looked at her arms, at least not one that shot up. She sighed, feeling cold in the dark, empty room. She put her hands to her head, her nails scraping at her temples as she yelled out in frustration before slamming a fist onto the bed.
Then she froze. Rain, she remembered rain, a downpour as she walked down the sidewalk. Why would she walk in the rain? How stupid was that. She closed her eyes, shutting them tight, thinking hard. It was night, she was walking fast. She probably didn't want to be caught in the rain, who would? She rocked back and forth, "What? What happened?" she whispered to herself. She could clearly remember the street she was on, stone walled apartments and a small sidewalk, alleyways. It was all there, but she couldn't remember anything after that. Just a loop of her walking quickly played through her head, along with the deafening sound of her walking through puddles and the rain drops hitting the ground.
As she thought it suddenly hit her again, the lightheadedness, the nausea, and her memory was slowly swallowed by a blue mist, and those blue eyes appeared once again. She opened her eyes with a gasp. She shook her head, "No, no, no! God damn it!" If she wasn't already crazy she was sure as hell going crazy.
She couldn't think and she couldn't sleep, so the only thing she could do was sit there all night. Hours past, and tears fell, and soon her eyes grew red from crying and lack of sleep. There was no clock and there was no view of the outside, so she had no clue what time it was. She wanted to take the needle out again but who knew how they'd react if she did.
It felt like forever before the light in the room finally turned on and she saw Waynard walk across the window to the door, Brenton walking behind her. She watched tiredly as the door opened, feeling her eyelids drooping, but she willed herself to stay awake; it was too late for sleep now. She noticed Brenton had a concerned look on his face already as he walked in. Why did it seem like he was the only decent person there? Well, out of the three people she knew were even in the building.
"I heard you were out sneaking around in the middle of the night Anise. We can't have that," Waynard said, stopping a couple feet away. The doctor turned to Hal, "She's yours again doctor Brenton. I do hope you make some progress." She gave Anissa one more glance before walking out.
