The boy looked around his muscles tense as a shiver ran up his spine. He looked at the demon that loomed over him earning a breathy laugh from it. He looked away as the demon spoke "There have been a string of murders. Now I know you could survive them but do you really want to test your luck?" The demons whisper echoed around his head. He looked at the demon "Which way are they coming?" He asked earning another laugh from the evil being "why would I tell you that? Even if I did how could you be sure I was telling the truth?" His words were low threatening to fade away into wind. The smaller boy shrunk down to think.
He stood up shaking his fur down as he looked at the demon. Sighing he spoke "I can't. But I do believe you'd be jealous if someone else hurt me other than you." The demon straightened it's back a long low hiss "You've got that right!" Even when yelling his voice was a soft whisper. The demon looked at the hills "they're coming from the mountains" his raspy voice said seeming to shake the boy in his skin. The boy nodded thoughtfully "let's go then." The demon glanced back "where the mountains? Were you not listening?" The boy fixed his gaze on the mountains "yes the towns may need help." he stated calmly. The demon growled lowly turning "you can get yourself killed I'm not going anywhere near them!" it rasped out before stalking off into the woods. The boy shivered. He was alone now. Looking at the woods he expected the demon to reappear but nothing. He turned to the mountains. He was hoping the demon could help him but now he wasn't sure. He didn't want to die by the claws of serial killers. He turned and ran off over the hills he had to get away the feeling of loneliness was all too much and he needed to get away from the demon.
The demon gave good enough company but only when in a good mood. Too many times to count the demon had clawed his way into his head forcing a possession. The boy hated the feeling of his head being cracked open as the demon forced him down to the depths of his unconscious mind. So he ran he had to. He couldn't face the killers alone but he didn't want to be with the demon. He had to run. He tail lashed as he began to slow the smell of smoke made his heart leap into his throat. He raised his head seeing the town ahead with billowing smoke. He slowly approached the burning buildings his eyes wide as he searched for survivors. To his surprise he heard the mew of a kitten. He followed the sound digging through ashes he grabbed the small kitten. He held it awkwardly in his jaws as he backed out of the building. Not even a few feet out and the building collapsed. He jogged out of the area hiding the kitten before returning.
Panting the boy looked at the small group of kittens and mothers the only surviving members of the town. His throat tightened as a realization set in. The survivors were wet. They were also only females, mothers and kittens to be exact. The town was cleaned of males and the other genders. Who ever did this obviously didn't want to kill the mothers and their female kittens. He looked at the group before speaking up to the female who seemed the most respected of the survivors. "Who did this?" He questioned. The motherly cat turned and her eyes were wet with tears, her sons had been killed. She blinked the tears away trying to compose herself "It was a female cat and a female dog. The cat seemed to be controlling the dog and when the first of the mothers was discovered, the cats eyes seemed so heart broken." She sniffled before continuing "She apologized to me before she killed my sweet sons. I don't know why she didn't kill me but I begged her. I begged her to kill me instead of them." Her voice broke as a sob tore through her causing her to lower herself as she began crying again. The boy placed his tail on her shoulders comfortingly. He didn't know what to do or say to be frank. She sat up blinking tears away from her eyes "now I only have my daughter" she said looking back at the kitten he first saved who was being gingerly groomed by another mother. The mother turned smiling sweetly "thank you for saving us" she said softly leaning into the boy touch with a soft sad purr. The boy nodded shaking his head slightly "Don't worry about it" he muttered.810 words!
