well you look like yourself but you're somebody else
The sounds of volleyball smacking against the wooden floor flooded your ears. The familiar sound made you smile in nostalgia, but it was slowly replaced with a frown.
"Oi! Kusokawa!" Iwazumi yelled.
Your lips parted in amusement. You hadn't even seen him yet you knew that he changed immensely.
"So mean Iwa-chan!" Oikawa complained. Your steps became slower as you approached the gym door.
knock knock
knock
The knocks you tapped against the door with came out lighter than you had hoped. 2 people turned their attention to you. One with black hair and one with a slightly pinkish tint.
"Oikawa-san!" one of them called to the setter. The third-year spun around quickly. "One of your fans is here!"
"More?" Iwaizumi groaned.
There he is.
"Oh!" Oikawa exclaimed. Just as he started walking toward you, you could feel the death stares from his other fans. "What can I do—"
"Do you know anyone named Hajime?" you spoke. Their eyes widened in surprise. The duo that you had seen a few moments ago snickered and one of them handed the other $10.
"Y-You mean Iwa-chan?" Oikawa asked, still in shock. You nodded, guessing that Iwa-chan meant Iwaizumi.
"Iwazumi has fans?" Kindaichi asked, quickly receiving a ball in the back of his head.
"All of you shut up and get back to practice." Iwaizumi said with a sigh and they all followed his orders. He made his way to pick up a stray volleyball that had rolled over your way.
When he picked it up, everything that followed seemed to go in slow motion. The ball dropped from his fingertips, a small smacking sound following soon after. He felt his heart jump out of his chest just as his gaze met yours.
"Hey, Hajime." you smiled weakly.
"Y/n..." he breathed.
"Does he have some s/o that I don't know about?" Oikawa asked, offended. The team just shrugged before shushing him.
Iwaizumi raced to you, his arms crushing you in a bear hug. Unfortunatly, you weren't prepared and ended up carrying both your weights onto the hard floor.
"Y/n!" he repeated and you nodded. "I - but how - you're -" he stammered and you stopped him with a small laugh. "You're supposed to be in Osaka! With mom and - "
"Can you get off me first?"
"Oh, yea. Sorry. Right." he sputtered and quickly got off you. He helped you off the ground and you both patted your clothes.
"Can someone please tell me what's going on here?!" Oikawa shrieked and Iwaizumi laughed.
"You never told your own team about me," you scoffed playfully and he just hit your arm.
"This is y/n. My younger sibling."
"By like...a few months." you scoffed.
"You're what?!" the team exclaimed.
"Now," he turned his attention back to you. His hands gripped your shoulders as if his life depended on it. "What happened to mom?"
"How do you know something happened?" you asked dubiously.
"Tell me, y/n."
His eyes looked deep into yours. It was an uncomfortable atmosphere with the rest of the team there. Oikawa seemed to notice this and guided his teammates out the gym doors.
"She's dead," you said flatly. He knew why. He knew you didn't like your mother. That's why he felt even more guilty for leaving.
His grip loosened in shock but he quickly resumed. But this time with a hug.
"I'm sorry, y/n," he whispered and you shook your head in denial. "No, really. I shouldn't have left you to do that alone. I shouldn't have —"
"You got accepted here. That's all there is to it." you pushed him off to show him your smile and he smiled back.
"Has someone actually been able to make Iwaizumi-san...smile?" Makki asked with a brow raised. Iwaizumi groaned in dissatisfaction and pulled away from the hug.
"I can't get one minute. Not one," he mumbled. You nudged his ribs before walking up to the team.
"Nice to meet you guys. I'm Y/n Iwaizumi." you held out your hand for the captain to shake but instead he kissed the top of it. Swiftly, your brother appeared next to you and pulled his friend off.
"Do that again and I'll sew your mouth shut."
"So mean Iwa—"
"Y/n-san!" you heard from behind you. As you went to turn around you could hear someone else shouting, "Boke, Hinata, boke!"
