can i play with your mind?

after years of practice with hajime, y/n had learnt a thing or two about volleyball. not only about the sport but about the mind games that accompanied it.

and that was far more interesting to the young iwaizumi sibling than a sport could ever be.

especially after hinata's declaration.

it had earned him a whack on the back of the head by the ravenette setter but he didn't regret his choice.

oh, how he should've kept his mouth shut.

hinata wasn't the only one with tricks up his sleeve.

eventually, the match came about and the ball was on the opposite side of the siblings. hajime had served but it was nowhere near as powerful as oikawa's. therefore leading to noya receiving it (perfectly) and sending it to their setter.

hinata wasn't lying when he said they were going to do a quick. y/n could see it in his eyes. he wasn't the type of person to lie, especially to throw something off.

if there was anything they had learned about the orange-haired middle blocker it was that he was the most genuine person in the world. there was no doubt about it.

"get ready for the freak quick attack..." hajime mumbled and just like that, the ball was dropping on their side. a string of curses left his mouth. he turned to his sibling expecting somewhat of a dejected look but was instead faced with a grin he had never seen before.

"are they ok?" daichi whispered to elder iwaizumi. he simply shrugged and turned back to the net.

"hey shoyo," y/n called. it surprised the male that they were calling him by his first name but he wouldn't let that throw him off so easily.

"yeah?! did you see our quick?! it was so cool!"

"I'm doing a setter-dump next."

the comment stunned them all, except hinata.

"alrighty then!"

deep down, he wasn't sure if he should believe his new friend. unlike y/n, he didn't have the best observation skills nor the deadpan face.

"they're lying." kageyama whispered. he took hinata's (unexpected) silence as a cue to continue. it looked like he wasn't the only one stumped by the person's statement. "y/n's not like you, they're probably using the quick that we just did as bait to fall into their trap."

"so it's not going to be a setter dump?" noya asked, peeking behind their shoulders. kageyama shook his head and they both nodded, getting back into place.

kageyama flawlessly served the ball to the opposing team. unfortunately for him, his own captain received the ball and sent it to the setter.

the situation had him on edge. even if it was a 3v3 he took volleyball very seriously, no matter the circumstances.

but, just like he said before, y/n wasn't a genuine type of person like hinata. there were only a handful of people like him and it was unlikely for two to be in the same place.

despite his own warning, his eyes trailed on y/n's hands, waiting for a setter dump.

regrettably, it never came, as y/n had swiftly sent their brother the ball, him spiking it roughly into the ground.

"it's all about mind games, boys. all about the mind games~!"
