there is nothing worse than meeting the perfect person at the wrong time

"S-hah..." Hinata let out a deep puff of air as he jogged up to the familiar bench. There you sat while idly scrolling through your notifications. "Sorry...for being...hah...late..."

"It's fine." You replied. "I've just got here." You said and he let out another breath, but this one was one of relief.

In truth, you had gotten there about 20 minutes earlier but you didn't mind the wait.

Fortunately, it was a nice day outside. Not very sunny because there were a few clouds and only a bit of wind.

"So!" He exclaimed as if he wasn't just extremely out of breath. "What'cha doing?"

"Texting Hajime." You answered and his lips parted into a little 'o'.

"That's Iwaizumi-san, right?" He asked and you nodded. "When'd you move here?"

You could tell this was going to be one of those bouncing conversations. Hinata certainly didn't seem like the type of person to stop talking just because the other person wasn't fully invested.

You were invested in the conversation, in your own way, and Hinata took notice of that.

"Uh...not too long ago. It was a spur of the moment type thing, y'know?"

"Mhm!" His head of orange fluffy hair bounced as he acknowledged your response. "What's your—"

"My turn." You interrupted. He pouted for a quick moment before becoming interested in your question. "Why did you start volleyball?"

His eyes sparkled ever deeper if that was possible.

"I want to become the next Tiny Giant!"

"Wow..." you mumbled. "I've heard of him before. He was super short wasn't he?"

"Yep! But he could jump soooooo high!" Hinata continued to throw his hands in the air and explain random facts about his idol.

"Alright, alright." You smiled slightly and he immediately stopped talking. It took you a moment to realize that he actually stopped talking and was now focused on you.

"Why are you so...quiet...? But cool...?" He asked softly and your eyes widened.

"I'm not cool, I'm just calm. I don't exert myself when I don't need—"

"Then why do you talk to me?" He interrupted, catching you off guard once more. But this time you didn't know what to respond.

"Uh...well...I guess it's easy?"

"Easy? Talking isn't easy or hard, is it?"

You wanted to be offended, to scoff, or to laugh, but he meant everything with his heart and soul. He genuinely wanted to know and that made you falter. You had never seen such compassion in a person's eyes before.

"Y-You know how you feel more...comfortable with certain people? People you find friendlier or—"

"Not really."

Your lips parted into a small smile. He was still so genuine.

"But I guess it's pretty easy to talk to you too!"

Hinata damn Shoyo, one day you're going to make me fall in love...
