Amy visited her primary doctor about her being diagnosed with this blood disorder. It wasn't for her, including her mother, waiting to hear news if they found a new blood doctor for Amy. Learning and knowing is about being more patient and being kind to others.
Amy is now sitting in the waiting room, her leg bouncing up and down. She is biting her bottom lip while waiting for her doctor's appointment. Amy rechecked the clock, seeing that it had already been twenty-four minutes since the doctor called her into the room. Amy let out a soft sigh as her impatience started to come through as she kept her eyes on the clock.
The nurse calls her name. Amy and her mother stand up and follow the nurses to see their primary doctor. They want to know if he has found her new blood doctor.
The primary doctor looked up as Amy and her mother arrived in his office. He gave both a small smile as he sat back in his chair. He picked up a few papers, taking a few minutes before looking them toward Amy and her mother.
"Well, I have good news for you both. I managed to find a blood doctor who will help you with your care."
Amy's eyes widen slightly, and her heart skips a beat in her chest. She smiles when the word "good news" slips from the doctor's mouth. She feels the tension leave her body, and her leg stops bouncing.
"But you will have to travel on airplanes to London to see your new blood, Amy?"
Amy raised her eyebrows. Shock filled her body for a second while the news sunk in. She was speechless for a few seconds, her hand clutching her shirt above her racing heart.
Amy: "London?"
"Yes. I have asked the doctor from London to come down to America to see you, but unfortunately, he won't be doing that. But he wanted to give you this letter." Her doctor handed her the letter. It says, "Do not open until you are at home."
"So that is all I can give for you dear miss, and I hope everything goes well for you as well."
Amy slowly nodded, recalling the shock of being told she had to travel to another country to see a blood doctor. She slowly picked up the letter, holding it in her shaking hand. She was about to ask a question but stopped when her doctor spoke again, telling her to wait until she was home to open the letter. Amy nodded her head again, still speechless.
Amy: "Alright... thank you..."
Amy left the room, ready to check out, and her mother waited for her in the car. She got in the car and buckled up.
"Well... any news sweetie?" Her mother asks her, waiting patiently.
Amy let out a sigh as she buckled her seatbelt.
Amy: "Well, it's kinda of good news, and bad."
Amy told her mother what her doctor had said about finding a blood doctor in London and that she would have to travel there to see him.
Amy's mother's eyes widen slightly in shock.
Mother: "London? You have to go over there just to see a doctor?"
Amy nodded her head slowly.
Amy: "I know... I was just as shocked, but that's what the doctor told me. He even gave me a letter. He said not to open it until I get home though..."
Amy's mother was silent momentarily, sighing as she processed what her daughter told her. Then, reaching over, she gently squeezed her daughter's hand.
Mother: "Well... I guess we've to start looking at flight tickets and start packing your things."
Amy nodded her head again, biting on her bottom lip.
Amy: "I guess... It's just... I'm going to be alone over there... I'm scared..."
